Curly hair, softball, kangaroo and other new emoji coming to Apple platforms in 2018

The Unicode Consortium has finalized 157 new emoji, of which 77 are brand new characters, that Apple and other companies will be incorporating into their platforms later this year.

Emoji website Emojipedia has shared Apple-like images of the new emoji. Some of the most notable additions include new faces, animals, food options, activities and modifiers:

  • Curly hair
  • Hot and cold faces
  • Party hat face
  • Woozy and pleading faces
  • Male and female superhero and supervillain options
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Test tube
  • Toilet paper roll
  • Sponge
  • Pirate flag
  • Infinity symbol
  • Bagel
  • Lettuce
  • Mango
  • Cupcake
  • Kangaroo
  • Parrot
  • Peacock
  • Swan
  • Badger
  • Llama
  • Lobster
  • Hippopotamus
  • Raccoon
  • Mosquito
  • Sewing
  • Knitting
  • Lacrosse
  • Skateboarding
  • Softball
  • Frisbee
  • Chess

All of the newly proposed human emoji characters support skin tones.

This is also the first time new options are available for hair color, ranging from red hair and curly hair to white hair and complete baldness. These cool new modifiers are available for use in sequences for men and women of any skin tone.

The list for Emoji 11.0 was finalized on February 7, 2018. You can check out the full list over at the Emojipedia website. For those wondering, these are scheduled for release this June, meaning they should hit your screens around the fall or later.

Apple is likely to bring these emoji sets to iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches via respective iOS, macOS and watchOS software updates, as it’s done in the past. The latest additions bring the total number of approved emoji characters to 2,823.
