Apple’s infotainment system will be integrated natively into a 2017 edition of Panamera from Porsche, the German automobile manufacturer specializing in high-performance sports cars. The car maker announced this morning that the 2017 Panamera luxury sedan has CarPlay support via a built-in 12.3-inch touchscreen.

In addition to CarPlay, the vehicle will support a new version of Porsche’s own Communication Management system with navigation, a voice control system with support for natural language parsing, Porsche Connect and more.

The digitalisation of the Porsche interior continues unabated with the new 2017 Panamera, which replaces classic hard keys with touch-sensitive surfaces and uses the new Porsche Advanced Cockpit.

There are two seven-inch displays placed directly in the driver’s line of sight, the analogue tachometer between them. The gearshift console between the driver and the front passenger is dominated by the 12.3-inch touchscreen with built-in CarPlay and the next generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system.

“The PCM area—with its high-end, high-resolution display—transitions harmoniously into the black panel concept of the centre console with a shift-by-wire gear selector for the PDK,” said the car maker.

As for a new control panel with touch-sensitive switches on the centre console, it enables intuitive control of various functions. “Even the louvres of the central air vent are electrically adjusted by touch-sensitive sliders. Rear passengers can control air conditioning and infotainment functions using an optional four-zone automatic climate control system,” Porsche noted.

The silhouette and proportions of the new Panamera models are more Porsche than ever, with the clearly perceived rounded transitions, powerful muscles and a sharpened sports car silhouette emphasizing the precision of the new design.

CarPlay is already featured on the 2016 Porsche 911, 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster, 2017 Porsche Macan, 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman and 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman S.

CarPlay is getting some interesting new features in iOS 10, including support for VoIP apps like Skype, a more intuitive Apple Music interface, the ability to rearrange and delete third-party CarPlay apps and more.
