Instagram updates Explore feature with video channels

Instagram announced on Thursday that it’s going to be rolling out a new look for Explore featuring video channels. The Facebook-owned social network says that it hopes the move will make it easier for users to discover video content they’ll enjoy.

Starting today, iOS and Android users will begin seeing a personalized channel in the Explore tab of the Instagram app called “Videos you Might Like.” The channel will feature videos collected from across the world in a seamless viewing experience.

Even with these changes, Explore still works the same way: It connects you to posts about your interests from people you don’t yet follow. The more you like, the better Explore gets, adjusting to your preferences and showing you more of the stuff you enjoy. And if you see something you don’t like, tap “See Fewer Posts Like This” in the ‘…’ menu to make your Explore experience even better.

Within the last 6 months, time Instagram users spent watching video has increased by more than 40%. The company is looking to take advantage of the uptick with today’s update, and other recent moves, including bumping the time limit to 60 seconds.

You can download the latest version of Instagram in the App Store for free (US-only for now).
