Facebook Messenger gains Dropbox integration

FAcebook Messenger Dropbox integration teaser 001

As Facebook continues advancing its mobile Messenger app, the company just announced in a blog post that users can now take advantage of a brand new integration to share their Dropbox files from within the mobile Messenger app.

The new feature is accessible through the More button in Messenger chats, where Dropbox is now listed as an available source. Simply tap the new icon to open the Dropbox app on your device and select cloud files that you’d like to share in a chat.

“We want people to communicate just the way they want to on Messenger, with everyone they care about,” said Stan Chudnovsky, head of product for Messenger.

“Giving our users the ability to share their Dropbox videos and images in Messenger threads with just a few taps will help them bring more style and personality to those conversations.”

If you’re sharing videos, images or animated GIFs from your Dropbox, these file types will render inline in your chats. Other file types are represented with a generic icon and a Open button. Tapping Open will bring recipients to the Dropbox mobile app, where they can preview and save files.

Messenger only gets better and better

Messenger recently gained a Transportation tab allowing users to hail an Uber without leaving their conversations. Last month, the application introduced its first airline bot for browsing flight information right within Messenger.

Facebook is also planning to soon let brands send ads as messages within Messenger. The messaging application recently passed 900 million monthly active users, rolled out Snapchat-like profile codes and vanity URLs and is planning to soon add customer service chat bots and live chat for businesses.

Facebook is said to be working on a native Messenger Mac app.
