In this quick tutorial, you’ll learn how to browse recently updated apps on your Apple TV and access official changelogs from developers, which typically provide a treasure trove of information detailing new features, refinements, fixes, and other information.
Like me, do you also want to learn about any changes as your favorite Apple TV apps get updated so you don’t miss out on cool new features?
It’s a great way to know what the new update brings so you can try them out and not remain strangers to features that are already on the app.
Access changelog for Apple TV app updates
You can visit the app’s page directly in the Apple TV App Store by asking Siri and then read what’s new. Or, you can follow these quick steps:
1) Open the App Store on your Apple TV.
2) Using the buttons or the touch surface on the Siri Remote, access your Purchased section in the top navigation bar.
3) Now, Recently Updated should already be selected in the lefthand column. Select it manually if it isn’t. This will populate your view with the most recently updated apps, sorted by date.
4) Select an app whose changelog you want to read.
5) Scroll down the App Store screen to the About section, and from here, go to the What’s New tile.
6) Click What’s New to read the changelog on the full screen.
Extra info: On older versions of tvOS, when you’d select an app in Step 4, it showed a super-short excerpt taken from the full changelog, along with the current version number and the date the update was released in the store. You could also highlight the excerpt and read it on the full screen. Sadly, this no longer works in recent versions, like tvOS 17.
Use your iPhone or iPad
Some apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Sony Live, Infuse, and VLC are available on both iOS and Apple TV. In this case, you can open the App Store page of these apps on your iPhone and iPad and see the update changelog there.
Disable automatic app updates on Apple TV
By default, third-party tvOS apps are automatically updated when new versions are released, and I’m fine with that. But if you’d like to have manual control, you can turn off automatic app updates from Apple TV Settings > Apps and set Automatically Update Apps to Off.
