Pinterest launches visual search tool

Pinterest visual search

Yesterday, Pinterest announced immediate availability of a new visual search tool in its mobile application for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Now when you see something in a Pin that you want to research, just tap the all-new search tool, select the part of the Pin you’re interested in, and it’ll show you similar Pins just like it.

“Sometimes you spot something you really love on Pinterest, but you don’t know how to find it in real life, or what it’s even called,” says the firm.

“There’s that perfect lamp hiding in a Pin of someone’s living room, or maybe a random street style shot with the exact shoes you’re looking for.”

Search by image

The new visual search feature lets you filter results by topic. Search results include many details pertaining to the Pin. For instance, if you zoom in on the lamp shared in a Pin, Pinterest will show you its name and where you can buy it.

“If you want to know more—like how to get a table like that—just resize your selection and move it around to instantly see more Pins,” says the firm.

The visual search tool is available beginning today in Pinterest mobile app and on the web. Visual search takes advantage of Pinterest’s database containing over 50 billion images posted to the service.

Pinterest requires an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with iOS 7.0 or later.
