If you’re on the lookout for a not-to-be-missedĀ freebie for your iPhone and iPad, look no further than IGN’s latest Free Game of the Month, Radiation Island by Atypical Games.

This open-world survival adventure game puts you in the shoes of a WWII military scientist who seem to be experiencing some sort of radiation poisoning and must survive on an island inhabited by weird creatures.

Radiation Island sells for $2.99 in the App Store and has never gone free since its App Store debutĀ this summer. It currently has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars based on nearly 4,000 App Store reviews.

The game sports first and third-person perspective modes and is basically like Lost mixed with Minecraft and The Walking Dead.

ā€œAs part of the Philadelphia Experiment you have become stranded in a parallel, alternate reality,ā€ reads the blurb. ā€œDiscover this new and mysterious world, with all its surprises. Use everything you find to survive it and solve its puzzle to get back to the real world.ā€

In Radiation Island, your main challenge is to survive on an island.

Radiation Island highlights

You’ll enjoy the following features:

  • A stunning huge world to explore.
  • Simple and intuitive crafting system allows you to create more than one hundred items.
  • Many animals populate the fields and forests of the islands. You need to watch out as some of them are harmless, while others are better left undisturbed. Also be careful, some of them prefer to roam in packs.
  • It’s not only you and the animals which are present on the island. Remnants of failed experiments, transformed and with no humanity left are the greatest danger. While they will be drawn to the their former bases and locations, they only seek to destroy and kill whichever is not them.

Radiation Island supports iCloud, Game Center and AirPlay so you can save and share progress across devices, play the game on larger displays through your Apple TV and climb the Game Center leaderboards, challenge friends and unlock achievements.
