Brookstone’s 100-lumen pocket projector is about the size of Apple TV

Brookstone HDMI Pocket Projector

One of my favorite summer activities involves watching movies in the backyard on a projector with a group of friends. Sometimes, however, you need a projector that super portable and doesn’t need to be plugged into a power source to work.

Brookstone makes a 100-lumen pocket projector that is smaller than the average external hard drive and runs for two hours on a rechargeable battery. So, you can throw it into your backpack and take it with you on your next road trip.

The projector is small at about four inches square and only about an inch thick. It features an HDMI port, a USB port, and a 3.5mm audio-out jack on the back.

The device comes with a short HDMI cable and an HML cable, plus a Micro HDMI adapter and a Mini HDMI adapter, so you can connect to most DVD and BluRay players and a number of smartphones and tablets. To connect to your iPhone 6, you’ll need the Apple Digital AV adapter.

It does include two one-watt speakers inside. However, for better audio, you can connect an external speaker via the 3.5mm jack.

The USB port allows you to connect your mobile device for charging. That’s right, the projector also doubles as a battery charger for your iPhone 6.

The box also has a thread hole on the bottom so you can connect it to a traditional tripod mount for more setup options.

The device accepts a 1080p signal and then projects it as 854 x 489 (WVGA) native resolution. There is a focus wheel on the side of the box for fine tuning your playback.

Brookstone’s HDMI Pocket Projector costs $250 on Amazon. If you want to use it with your iPhone or iPad, be sure to purchase a Digital AV adapter, too.
