Save links for later with Pinterest’s much improved Share extension

Pinterest Share button

Pinterest’s Share extension on iPhones, iPod touches and iPads has gotten a whole lot more useful in the latest update which just landed on the App Store.

The free of charge application was among the first on the App Store to have rolled out a native Share sheet extension on iOS 8, albeit sporting a very limited set of features.

With the new, much improved Pinterest button for iPhone, you can now save links for later in a more visual way than before, with customizable Pin descriptions and more.

Pinterest button gets more visual

When you choose to save a link to one of your boards, Pinterest’s Share extension will provide more choices and greater flexibility. Say I want to save an article about TodoMovies 4 for later with Pinterest.

Upon visiting the said article on iDownloadBlog, I simply choose the Pinterest option in Safari’s Share menu. The extension automatically analyzes available images in that article and presents me with a brand new grid of thumbnails.

After choosing my preferred thumbnail, I’m asked to select a board to save the article to. I can even create a new board, right from the extension, and tag each Pin with a custom description—just like on the web.

How to enable Pinterest’s Share extension

Before you can start sending links to Pinterest, you must first enable the extension.

In order to do so, just fire up Safari on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and choose the Share option, it’s the middle icon in Safari’s tab bar alongside the bottom.

Now swipe the top row of icons until you reach the More option at the rightmost side. Tap it and up pops a list of available Share extensions. Flip the Pinterest switch to ON and you’re good to go.

Now when you want to save links for later with Pinterest, just choose Pinterest from Safari’s Share menu and share away!

One more thing…

You can optionally drag Pinterest all the way up to the top.

Doing so ensures that Pinterest shows up prominently in Safari’s Share menu so you won’t have to swipe when sending links to the service, a great time-saver if you use Pinterest on a daily basis.

The 63.5-megabyte app supports any iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with iOS 7.0 or later and is optimized for the iPhone 5/5s/5c, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screens.

Pinterest is available at no charge in the App Store.
