Starbucks and Apple launch new (RED) gift card

This is kind of cool: Apple and Starbucks have teamed up to offer the Starbucks iTunes (RED) eGift basket, a joint gift card that offers credit for both Starbucks and iTunes purchases. And, as you might have guessed, the (RED) moniker means that a percentage of the profits made from the eGift basket will go towards AIDS research…

The Loop (via 9to5Mac) has the press release:

“Give a gift that gives back this holiday season with Starbucks iTunes (RED)™ eGift basket. You can send loved ones a thoughtful gift of two digital eGifts—$15 eGift to Starbucks and $15 eGift to iTunes—for $30. Plus, for every gift sold, Starbucks and iTunes will together contribute 5% of the purchase price to the Global Fund to help deliver an AIDS free generation by 2015. With the convenience of a Starbucks Card, Starbucks Card eGifts can be used for purchases in-store at participating company-owned and licensed stores in the U.S. and online.”

Just like Starbucks, Apple has been a long-time partner of Product Red. The charity, formed in 2006 by U2 frontman Bono, raises money and awareness through strategic product partnerships with companies like Nike, Apple and Armani. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS is the main recipient of (RED) money, but it supports other causes as well.

Anyway, if you’re interested, you can find the Starbucks iTunes (RED) card on Starbuck’s website for $30. If nothing else, it would make a great stocking stuffer, because who doesn’t like music and coffee?
