Verizon just announced that it’s going to flip the LTE switch on in 34 new markets tomorrow, and will also be expanding its 4G coverage in another 38.
We’ll get to the new markets in a moment, but perhaps more interesting is the milestone. After tomorrow’s rollout, Verizon’s LTE network will be in more than 370 markets, blanketing close to two-thirds of the the country’s population…
Folks in the following areas will be able to access Verizon’s 4G network tomorrow:
- Hot Springs, Arkansas
- Redding, California
- Valdosta and Waycross, Georgia
- Centralia and Danville, Illinois
- Parsons, Salina and Topeka, Kansas
- Alexandria and Monroe, Louisiana
- Pittsfield, Massachusetts
- Battle Creek and Muskegon, Michigan
- Laredo, Odessa and Texarkana, Texas
- Brattleboro and White River Junction, Vermont
- Charlottesville, Virginia
- Longview, Washington
- Eau Claire, La Crosse and Manitowoc, Wisconsin
- Mankato and Worthington, Minnesota
- Joplin and Sedalia, Missouri
- Bismarck, Grand Forks and Minot, North Dakota
- Chillicothe, Ohio
- Reading, Pennsylvania
- Aberdeen, South Dakota
Verizon was the first [major] US wireless carrier to launch its LTE network back in 2010, and it has been paying off in spades. The operator’s 4G coverage is now in over 300 more markets than its closest competitor — AT&T.
And this will become a really big deal in about a month or so, as Apple is expected to finally unveil an iPhone compatible with LTE tech. A local Verizon store told us that they are already receiving daily inquiries about the handset from potential switchers. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this all plays out come September.
