Add Text to Your iPhone’s Lock Screen With ‘Custom Lock’

It looks like Tyler Nettleton saved one of his best jailbreak tweaks for last. His swan song, Custom Lock, allows iPhone jailbreakers to add their own custom message to their lock screen.

Custom Lock is the seventh and final entry for this round of TweakWeek and it allows you to use your iPhone's lock screen as a virtual billboard.

A quick venture into your iPhone's Settings app reveals a settings panel for Custom Lock that lets you add clock replacing text along with subtitle text.

Want to see what the results look like? Check inside for a brief video demo of Custom Lock in action...

Censor Your SMS Messages With ‘SMS Censor’

SMS Censor is a new jailbreak tweak that allows you to censor certain words when using your iPhone's default Messages app.

Its purpose is to prevent messages from being sent altogether if it detects a censored string residing in the body of your text message.

I'm not exactly sure who would want to use this, or how it would be used, but I'd imagine it would be a scenario where a parent is censoring or monitoring their child's text messaging habits.

Unfortunately, if the child is smart enough to jailbreak the device in the first place, they're definitely smart enough to find one of the many ways to work around a restriction such as this...

Apple Wins Sweeping Patent on iPhone’s Multi-Touch User Interface

Apple has been awarded a patent filed in 2007 regarding the iPhone's multi-touch user interface. As reported by PCMag, this patent is so broad that it could give Apple unprecedented ability to pressure other smartphone makers in the U.S.

This patent outlines the multi-touch technology Apple employs in iOS. Theoretically, this patent gives Apple the rights to almost all of the multi-touch gestures and interface designs that currently exist in other devices on the market.

Court Denies Samsung a Peek at iPhone 5 and iPad 3

Apple and Samsung are currently in the middle of a heated copycat lawsuit. Apple accused Samsung of stealing the iPhone's design, and Samsung retaliated by asking to see Apple's unreleased products for comparison.

Both companies believe that their products designs are being copied, but one thing's for sure: Samsung won't be seeing any unreleased products from Apple.

Verizon Rolling LTE into Several New Areas by July 21

Verizon seems to be really motivated to hit their goal of 175 markets using LTE technology by the end of this year. The carrier announced 19 new markets and 2 new cities a little over a week ago, and is now announcing even more coverage.

Verizon issued a press release yesterday stating that they plan to add another 13 markets by July 21 of this year. Though there are still plenty of bugs to be ironed out, Big Red's LTE network is without a doubt leading the 4G race in the United States...

Bloomberg: New iPhone Coming in September, A5 Chip, 8 MP Camera

Hot off the heels of yesterday's rumor from BGR that pegged an August announcement for the next iPhone, Bloomberg has decided to enter the rumor mill and back up previous reports that put the next gen iPhone's release at a September date.

Among a September release, Bloomberg corroborates other reports that Apple's next iPhone will not, in fact, be a "radical" redesign of the iPhone 4, but instead a mere hardware boost.

‘TrickSlide’ Eliminates Your Slide to Unlock Nub in Favor of a Cleaner Look

TrickSlide is yet another entry into the TweakWeek series of iPhone jailbreak tweaks. Although the name may sound cunning and cutting edge, at the end of the day, this is nothing more than a glorified WinterBoard theme, without actually having to use WinterBoard.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but this same functionality can, and has been easily accomplished in the past by use of clever WinterBoard theming.

All that TrickSlide aims to do is to hide your "Slide to Unlock" nub on your iPhone's lock screen; nothing more, nothing less...

QuickComposer Widget for iOS 5 Notification Center

Apple's new firmware won't be officially available for another few months, but that hasn't stopped the jailbreak community from experimenting with the beta release. We've seen several iOS 5 Notification Center widgets over the last few weeks, but there's always room for more.

The latest jailbreak tweak to surface for the new iOS is called QuickComposer. The widget allows you to access the composition screen of different applications with a single tap...

A Humorous iPhone 4 Anecdote

I have a friend who works at Radio Shack. He sells a lot of AT&T iPhones to customers and recently had a humorous story to share with me.

A woman entered the store and angrily asked for a sales associate. My friend responded to her, and asked her what the issue was. She held up her brand new iPhone 4 that she had purchased the week before, and proceeded to complain that she had been ripped off.

She explained that she had paid for an iPhone 4, but that's not what she was given. She demanded that since she paid for the newest iPhone, the store should exchange the one she had for a true iPhone 4...

How to Fix Recording Errors in Display Recorder

Display Recorder is a wonderful jailbreak app by Ryan Petrich for creating a video recording of your iPhone's screen. Some users, however, have been having problems creating new recordings and have seen Error Code 0 or 2. As far as I can tell, the issue is related to the way that Display Recorder stores files in the file system to circumvent ASLR obstacles and the permissions that iTunes applies to them during backup restores.

It seems that the only users affected by these errors are those who recently restored from an iTunes backup or upgraded/downgraded their firmware. Luckily, the fix is pretty simple and can be done in under ten minutes...

Apple Looking to Launch iOS-Powered TV Set This Fall?

Though the Apple TV2 is doing much better than its predecessor, ATV2 sales are anything but spectacular compared to Apple's other products. The device has been labeled by Apple as "just a hobby," but there is new evidence suggesting that the Cupertino company may be starting to get serious about taking over our living rooms.

Daily Tech is reporting that they have heard on good authority that Apple is looking to replace the Apple TV line this fall with an entirely new product. Their source, a former Apple executive, is claiming that soon we will be able to walk into an Apple store, and walk out with a TV set...
