New iPhone Caught on Video

This is an exclusive news - exclusively funny of course - that we are sharing with you today. After months or rumors and speculations, we finally got our hands on the next iPhone. Against all odds, Apple's next smartphone will not be called the iPhone 4S as we suggested yesterday, but simply the iPhone 5.

If you guys are wondering, no, we didn't find this iPhone in a bar, neither did we buy it from someone...

It’s Raining iPhones! Chinese Counterfeiters Toss 600 Fake iPhones Out of 18th Floor Apartment Window

This has to be one of the silliest ideas I've seen in what, like a day?

Fearing being nabbed by the authorities, cell phone counterfeiters opted to try to get rid of the evidence by tossing 656 fake iPhone 5 boxes out of an 18th story apartment window. Yeah, nobody's going to see that.

The counterfeiters have an obvious fondness for the iPhone, but they weren't discriminating. Among the items tossed were 284 Nokia phones, and 60 Sony Ericsson phones as well.

Shanzhai factories, as they are known, refer to operations that produce counterfeit goods that closely imitate the real deal. Unfortunately, it looks like these four dealers didn't get the message that the iPhone 5 won't be here until September.

The factories -- especially prominent in the gadget crazed Shenzhen -- are facing increasing scrutiny from local authorities as they try to clean up the area's foreign perception.

Thus, it's getting more difficult for shanzhai operations to go about business the old fashion way, with many opting for more covert means of distribution.

Something tells me that tossing 1,000 cell phone's, cases and all, out of an 18th floor apartment window, is anything but covert.

The counterfeit goods smashed cars and fences, but thankfully, no one was hurt by the sudden deluge of iPhones.

Oh, and as you may have guessed, the foursome was still apprehended by the po-po.

The good news is that the people standing below the window got their hands on an "iPhone 5", and it was free no less.

How many of us can say we got an "iPhone 5" for free, and it's not even summer yet?

Proposed Next-gen iPhone Components Reveal Similar Design to Current Model

We've said it before. With so little known about the unreleased iPhone this year, expect to see non-stop speculation regarding Apple's next smartphone. While last year, we knew almost everything about the device, we're not even totally positive there is going to be one this year.

The latest bit of gossip comes from ModMyi, who have posted a photograph of an iPhone 5 component. The snapshot comes from an Italian blog which, thanks to Google Translate, claims they have actual photos of parts used in the next iPhone...

Google News Introduces “News Near You” for Mobile Devices

Google just announced a new feature for Google News for mobile devices such as the iPhone. When pointing your iPhone to news.google.com via Safari, Google News will ask you if it can use your location. If you agree, it will serve you news that happened around you.

I really like the idea of news near me, the problem is I can't get this thing to work. Yes, my Location Services are turned on, I rebooted, etc, but it just won't work. Oh well, I guess I will have to remain ignorant of what's happening around me...

Apple Will Call the Next iPhone “4S?”

We've heard iPhone 5, 4G, 4GS, and 4S as possible names for Apple's next gen iPhone. Recently, select develepors started receiving iPhone '4S' prototypes for testing purposes. There's even been some leaked images of what is an alleged iPhone 4S with a slightly larger screen than the iPhone 4.

Following other hints that the next iPhone will be called the "4S," an industry analyst from Jefferies has reported that Apple will indeed call the device the iPhone 4S.

35% of iPhone Owners Launch an App Before Getting Out of Bed

A recent survey by Ericsson revealed that about 1/3 of Android and iPhone users launch at least one application before getting out of bed. Are you surprised? Probably not, especially if you're like me.

Tina and I have a rule: no iPad or TV in the bedroom. Although I've tried to implement the no iPhone rule in the room as well, it's been hard to enforce for 2 reasons: first, we need our iPhones as we use them as alarm clocks, and second, because we're freaking addicted to it...

MobileMe Enters Lame Duck Status as Amazon Halts Sales

So long MobileMe, it wasn't nice knowing ya.

You were overpriced, you didn't do much, and there were many other cloud services that simply did it better. Good riddance.

If you're feeling like I'm feeling, then the revelation that Amazon has halted orders of MobileMe sales is music to your ears.

Speaking of music, the worst kept secret in the industry will likely be replacing MobileMe as an all in one service that does music, document sharing, and more. Yep, I'm talking about iCloud...

PhotoAlbums+ Gets an Update, Still the Best Photo Management App for iPhone

I don't know about your guys, but I'm kinda ticked we can't create photo albums on the fly on our iPhone or iPad. Thankfully, the jailbreak community is once again taking over where Apple slacked. We've already covered PhotoAlbums+, a jailbreak app that allows you to create albums and move pictures from/to these albums, directly from your iPhone, without the need of iTunes.

PhotoAlbums+ just got an update, and while it doesn't bring anything really new to the table, I felt like talking about this app again because it deserves publicity...

iPhone and App Store in Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition

We've seen that the iPhone isn't just a popular smartphone, it's also an extremely popular camera. But apparently those aren't the only categories that Apple's Swiss Army Knife-of-a-device ranks highly in.

Gamasutra, the website for everything video games, has recently reported some interesting facts from the Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition. We knew that iDevices were popular gaming machines, but had no idea how popular...

iPad 3 Retina Display? Samsung Thinks it's Possible

The iPad 2 hasn't even been out a full 3 months yet, and speculation regarding the next iteration of Apple's tablet has already begun. While we've heard rumors of a potential launch date and possible 3D technology, little else is known about the device.

Even though a new iPad isn't expected for quite some time, it is an Apple product. Investors and tech heads alike want to know every detail possible about it and how it's going to measure up to the competition.

The latest speculation regarding Apple's next tablet comes from a report that Samsung will be demonstrating a new 10.1-inch display next week at Display Week 2011. The screen has a resolution of 2560 x 1600.

Not only is the display sporting 300 dots per inch (iPhone 4 has 326 dpi), it uses Samsung's PenTile technology which allows it to consume 40% less power than its counterparts.

Why is Samsung's new display connected with the next iPad? The Korean company has been providing components (including display panels) for Apple's iDevices since their inception. Even if Apple doesn't use this exact model, the fact that the technology is available is a testament in itself.

Expect to see something similar to this in the iPad 3, as Apple tries to keep up with the Jones' in the tablet market. They couldn't possibly try their 1024 x 768 again, which has quickly fallen to the back of the pack.

What do you think?

iOS Developers Threatened of Being Sued Over In-App Purchase Patent Infringement

An interesting story covered by TiPb earlier today. Apparently, a couple iOS developers have received letters letting them know they were infringing a patent when using the in-app purchase feature in their application.

According to the documents they received, they have 21 days to either comply by paying a licensing fee, or remove in-app purchase from their application. Looks like someone is trying to scare off a few developers...

Tweetbot Receives 1.1 Update, Landscape Support in Tow

Ever since Alex introduced me to Tweetbot, I've been smitten. While some folks claim the interface is too busy, I appreciate the sharp graphics and quick animations. However, the original version was missing some key features, like support for landscape mode.

This made tweeting kind of a pain because I tend to type much faster with my iPhone turned sideways. Luckily there was a jailbreak tweak available to force the app sideways. Now for all of you stock iPhone users, Tapbots has released  Tweetbot 1.1 to let you join in on the landscape party...
