iPad 2 Available for Order Online Now

It seems Apple turned the switch a little before the official 1am scheduled release. At about 0.50am here in California, I was able to purchase a couple white iPads for my mom and future mother in law.

Ordering went smoothly compared to my last experience pre-ordering the iPhone 4. I guess opening orders in the middle of the night is a good way for Apple to prevent massive amounts of visits to their site at the same time.

While Apple initially offered "fast shipping" on the iPad, my order is said to ship between 3-5 business days. Hopefully it will go faster.

Now time to go to bed because tomorrow I have to get in line to get my own iPad 2.

Make sure to leave a comment below and tell us about your experience.

iOS 4.3 Gets the Jailbreak Treatment

Well folks, it didn't take long for iOS 4.3 to be officially jailbroken. Just about 24 hours after being released, iOS hacker i0n1c apparently successfully jailbroke an iPad running iOS 4.3. The video below shows what seems to be an iPad iOS 4.3 launching Cydia.

This jailbreak is also supposed to be untethered (hassle free)...

‘More Icon Folder’ for the App-Happy iPhone User

Even with the large amount of fantastic apps available for iOS these days, I try to keep my spring board as clean as possible. In fact, I was ecstatic when Apple announced the new folders feature in their last major overhaul of their iPhone software. In Apple-like fashion, the feature was easy to use, but came with some limitations.

You may only have 4 icons per row, with a limit of 12 total icons per folder. For most people that's more than enough to help you organize your cluttered home screen. But if you are a power user with more apps than the average joe, this limitation can be frustrating. But don't get too discouraged. If you are jailbroken, you certainly have options to fix this....

MySwitcher Makes iPhone Multitasking Better

When Apple introduced multitasking into their iOS platform, millions of iDevice users rejoiced. Although it was a bit of a struggle at first, as soon as developers started updating their apps to support multitasking, it became a really useful feature.

But as with most things Apple, what you see is what you get. There is no stock option to customize this multitasking bar. But luckily for us jailbroken folk, there's an answer. MySwitcher from BigBoss is available in Cydia and is more than up to the task of customizing your multitask bar...

‘Springtomize’ Brings an Insane Level of Springboard Customization to the iPhone

Okay Mr. Bigarella, you've outdone yourself this time. That's the only phrase that popped into my head upon installing Springtomize and discerning how gaudy his latest jailbreak tweak is.

There's simply no better description for Springtomize -- a jailbreak tweak that takes about 50 other jailbreak tweaks, and rolls them all into one.

In fact, there are so many options here, that it could prove to be a bit overwhelming for those just looking to add slight customizations to their iPhones.

But that's not who Springtomize is aimed at. It's aimed at those who want absolute 100% control over the look and feel of their iPhone; it does a pretty good job of doing so too...

New iPhone App Development Software Available

Do you aspire to be an iPhone developer? Maybe, you have some million dollar ideas and just had no clue where to start. Well, allow me to point you in the right direction. Apple's iOS App development software, Xcode, has been a quiet factor in the huge success of the App Store.

Integrated, all in one, easy to use tools are a few things that make Xcode so attractive to developers. It's everything you need to make an app, from start to finish, and even includes an iOS simulator so you can see what your app will look like on the actual device. Xcode 4 is free to registered members of Apple's developer program, and available now. Not a member? No sweat....

iPad 2 Available Online at 1am Tonight

As of tomorrow 5pm you will be able to buy the iPad 2 in several locations, including of course the Apple Store. For those of you who don't want to wait in line, Apple will allow for iPad 2 orders online as of 1am PST.

I need 3 iPads so here is my strategy: I'll set my alarm clock at 1am and order 2 iPads, one white, one black. These 2 iPads are gifts for my mother and mother in law.

I'll go to the Apple Store Friday before 5pm and get the line. As soon as I get inside the store, I will check out the 2 colors and decide whether I want to go with white or black. Historically, I've always chose black products, but I have to admit the white iPad 2 looks gorgeous.

Unless you're an Apple fanatic like me, I believe the best solution for you is to order online. Sure you won't get instant gratification, but Apple said they will ship online orders fast. That means that you could get your new iPad as early as Saturday, or, worst case scenario, on Monday.

So, what are you going to do?

iPad 2 Described as Evolutionary, Not Revolutionary

Although we mentioned some things we didn't like about the iPad 2 yesterday, many first round reviews are still calling it the best tablet on the market. That could also be due to lack of competition.

While there will be many competitors launching their first tablets this year (HP, Blackberry, Microsoft?), Apple is on the brink of releasing their 2nd iteration of their smash hit, the iPad. Selling 15 million iPads in its first 9 months, Apple's iPad hoarded 73% of the tablet industry in the 4th quarter of last year. But do the folks at Cupertino have another juggernaut on their hands?

It would appear so. Judging by the general consensus amongst early iPad 2 testers, the new features make for a better tablet experience. Confirming Apple's claims, many reviewers are finding the new iPad to be noticeably lighter, especially with extended use.

Macworld is also reporting that this is the fastest iOS device ever, by a long shot. Other testers seem to agree. Slashgear even brags that their iPad 2 was able to software decode a side loaded 1.4GB .avi file on the fly using Oplayer, while watching it, without lag or stutter. Something, they say, the original iPad more than struggled with.

There were mixed reviews on battery life. Some sites reported the iPad 2 exceeded the original by giving them 10 hours and 26 minutes of continuous playback. Others reported just under the 10 hour mark.

So it's faster, it's lighter, it has the same 10 hour battery life, but what about those new cameras? Well it's easy to see why Apple doesn't go too much into detail about the cameras. Multiple sources are describing the new cameras as taking mediocre stills and only decent video. I assume we'll see higher resolution cameras in the next iPad, in conjunction with better display.

Love it or hate it, Apple seems to have another hit on their hands. Starting at $499, the iPad 2 has a more attractive entry price than most of its competitors. Though the iPad 2 is more evolutionary than revolutionary, it still has to be the best consumer tablet on the market right now. Walter S. Mossberg, of The Wallstreet Journal, thinks the new features aren't enough to warrant upgrading from the current iPad, what do you think?

Will you be in line tomorrow at 5 PM ? Let us know below!

‘ON Voicefeed’ Makes Customizable Voicemail Greetings for iPhone Easy

When Sebastien suggested that I try out this new voicemail app from Orange Vallee, I was definitely skeptical. I've tried 3rd party visual voicemail apps before on Blackberrys and Android alike, and have always been disappointed. I've yet to try any on the iPhone though, and this promised a few new tricks so I figured why not.

The download is free and available here. Where the other visual voicemail programs floundered, this one shined. The most dreaded part about setting these 3rd party voicemail services up is the activation process. ON Voicefeed, like most other services, requires you to setup an account. This is done by entering in a tiny bit of info and authorizing it with a code that is sent directly to your iPhone via text...

OtterBox Defender Series Case: This is the Real Deal

This is a guest post by my friend Guy, who's owned more iPhones and cases than anyone I know. Because Guy is a heavy (and very picky) case user, I figured he would be the best person to review the OtterBox iPhone 4 Defender Series Case.

I have had more iPhones than I can count since my first $600 2G back in 2007. Of those, I've broken the glass on a half-dozen or so. Such was the case with my last iPhone which I broke last week. At the time, I was using the OtterBox Commuter. While it was pretty effective at absorbing most of the shocks caused by dropping it - even on concrete - it didn't do a thing to protect the screen when it fell and landed face down on a small rock...

TinyUmbrella Updated Again, Adds iOS 4.3 and iPad 2 Support

Now that the official version of iOS 4.3 has been released, @notcom has released an updated version of TinyUmbrella to support the new firmware.

In addition to iOS 4.3 support, the updated TinyUmbrella (version 4.30.00) also brings iPad 2 support for all models (WiFi, CDMA, and GSM), and a new tweak requested by the creator of Cydia, @Saurik. Notcom also mentions that users who do not update to the latest version of TinyUmbrella, may experience significant slowness when saving their SHSH blobs in the future...
