iOS 4.3 Coming Very Soon, In-App Subscriptions, Personal Hotspot, and the iPad 2

All signs have been pointing to Apple releasing iOS 4.3 in the very near future, with speculation that Apple's 4.3 announcement could even come next week. Most speculation is centering on an Apple announcement taking place within the next 10 days.

Besides an iOS 4.3 announcement, Apple is rumored to be announcing the iPad 2, the Verizon iPhone's "Personal Hotspot" feature on AT&T, and an official release of in-app subscriptions.

Whether or not all of the speculation is accurate, it's evident that Apple will be holding an event in the near future...

GreenPois0n RC5 2 Fixes “Initialized Screen” Errors

Some of you who tried to jailbreak with GreenPois0n yesterday might have encountered a problem where you were stuck on the "GreenPois0n initialized" message, not being able to go on with the jailbreak process.

The Chronic Dev Team worked on a fix for this, which has been implemented in GreenPois0n RC5 2, which you can download from our downloads section...

Missing Your Cydia App After Jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 with GreenPois0n?

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few hours, you know that the long awaited GreenPois0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 was finally released.

Maybe it's just me, but I always seem to run into some sort of problem with missing or broken Cydia installations after a successful jailbreak.

To fix this issue I was able to install RedSn0w 0.9.6 on top of my GreenPois0n jailbreak with no ill results. By doing this you will still retain your untethered jailbreak, while gaining the necessary Cydia icon.

VoiceActivator Is Going to Change the Way You Talk to Your iPhone

Voice Control has always been something of anomaly to me. In fact, I'm always a bit startled when I see it pop up on my iPhone after accidentally holding the home button one second too long.

It's almost as if I've forgotten that the functionality even exists, although I know its tucked away in my iPhone somewhere. The point is, Voice Control just isn't useful in its current state. I can't recall one instance where I've actually used it outside of showing off the capabilities.

Fortunately for us, that's what jailbreaking is for -- turning mundane functions into something useful. VoiceActivator is the epitome of usefulness, transforming Voice Control into a hot commodity...

One Change that Would Make Cydia Better

For those of you running a tethered jailbreak, how many times have you installed a package while away from home only to find out a reboot is required? All of a sudden you're left with a device with zero functionality that just drains the battery until you get home.

While we wait for Cydia to get some great new features that may bring transparency and uniformity, here's a simple idea that would solve this annoyance...

Verizon Strikes Back at AT&T with New iPhone TV Ad

A few days ago we told you about how AT&T slapped Verizon in the face by ridiculing Big Red and the fact that the iPhone on Verizon can't make calls while surfing the web. At the time, I predicted this was just the beginning of hostilities between the two giant.

Yesterday Verizon stroke back by launching their very first commercial for the iPhone. Simple, short, and brilliant, this TV ad makes fun of AT&T in just 6 words: "yes, I can hear you now". Obviously this is a shot at AT&T's poor network...

How to Update to iOS 4.2.1 and Preserve iPhone 4 1.59.00 Baseband

Now that Greenpois0n RC5 finally provides the long awaited iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak (without the need of SHSH Blobs), many iPhone 4 owners with unlocked iPhones' have been told to hold off upgrading to 4.2.1 as you will lose the ability to unlock (for now).

But thanks to TinyUmbrella developer @notcom, there is now a way to upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 without upgrading your baseband. Unfortunately, currently you will only be able to unlock your iPhone 4 on the older 1.59.00 baseband (modem firmware). So if you are not on the older baseband, you will not be able to unlock your iPhone 4.

For those of you with the older 1.59.00 baseband, follow the guide below to preserve your iPhone 4 baseband and unlock and jailbreak your iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1...

Tutorial: How to Jailbreak your iPhone 4.2.1 with GreenPois0n

The GreenPois0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 was released a few minutes ago and I already took it for a spin on my older iPhone 3G sporting iOS 4.2.1.

This step by step guide will show you how to use GreenPois0n to jailbreak your iPhone iOS 4.2.1. It's worth noting that this version will not hacktivate your iPhone and that so far, there is only a Mac version...

GreenPois0n Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 Released

After weeks of talks, wait, and rumors, the Chronic Dev Team finally came through with the release of their GreenPois0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1.

Up until now, there was no other solution but use a beta version of RedSn0w, which let's be honest, wasn't very stable. I don't know if this release will be better than RedSn0w as there isn't much information about this version of GreenPois0n so far.

All we know is that it works with the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and iPhone running iOS 4.2.1. Even better, unlike RedSn0w, you won't need to have your 42b3 SHSH blobs saved in order for GreenPois0n to work.

Google Shopper for iPhone is Now Available in the App Store

Google has released their popular Android shopping app in the App Store. Shopping results have been part of Google's web search for a long time, and the Android app is used by millions of people for mobile shopping.

Google Shopper for the iPhone delivers shopping results through text, image and voice search. If you've ever used Google shopping results on the web, you'll immediately understand how to use Google Shopper on the iPhone. Instead of restricting your results to, for example, Amazon's catalog (Price Check for iPhone), Google Shopper will present you with compared results from various vendors on the internet.

The goal with Google Shopper is to give you more informed and objective results from various product vendors. The app is simple and effective at searching for products you encounter on the go with your iPhone...

Poll: Did You Pre-Order a Verizon iPhone 4?

Verizon started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4 earlier today. While I suspect they won't sell as many as AT&T did in the past on their first day, I'm still pretty sure some of you will jump ships and leave AT&T for a supposedly better carrier.

Please take a few seconds of your time to take this poll, and let us know if you have or intend to pre-order a iPhone 4 with Big Red today...

Verizon to Throttle Data Speed and Start Compressing Images and Videos

BGR came across an interesting document from Verizon revealing that the company will be throttling data speed for its heaviest data users. If you're one of Verizon's top 5% users of data, the company will periodically reduce your data throughput speeds.

Additionally, the company intends to optimize images and videos by compressing them before they get to your device, which will inevitably decrease the quality of the converted content.

As Verizon is starting to take pre-orders for the iPhone 4, this move doesn't come as a surprise...
