Libhooker, the tweak injection method frequently used by CoolStar-associated jailbreaks including Odyssey for iOS & iPadOS 13 and Taurine for iOS & iPadOS 14, has been officially open-sourced.
A new comment posted Wednesday morning in the Sileo & Odyssey Team Discord channel by Odyssey Team lead developer CoolStar entertained the idea of initially releasing a limited version of the Cheyote jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 ahead of the final version.
Those who’ve been following the developmental stages of the Odyssey Team’s upcoming Cheyote jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 have done well to remain patient as the team’s developers sort out the challenges that come along with moving to the new rootless dynamic. Fortunately, the team surfaced with a fresh update on Saturday.
Jailbreakers who use any of the Odyssey Team’s tools should be familiar with libhooker, as it’s the primary tweak injection method used by those jailbreaks so that tweaks can hook into system processes and work how they’re expected to.
While it now seems unlikely for @pattern_f_ to share the exploit for A12 & A13 handsets running iOS & iPadOS 14.6-14.8 with the Odyssey Team for use in the Taurine jailbreak the same way it’s currently being used by the unc0ver jailbreak, some good news for Taurine users is that a new beta of libhooker is available for testing.
If you use any of the CoolStar-led jailbreaks, including Chimera for iOS 12, Odyssey for iOS & iPadOS 13, or Taurine for iOS & iPadOS 14, then there’s a good chance that you’re using libhooker for tweak injection, which is the intricate process that lets installed jailbreak tweaks work their magic on your handset’s operating system.
While CoolStar regularly updates libhooker with improvements, CoolStar just this past weekend opted to launch a public beta of a new libhooker build dubbed libhooker v1.6.9 beta 1 to allow voluntary testers to try the latest features before they roll out to the general public by way of an official update.
At the start of the year, CoolStar launched a standalone libhooker Configurator app that could be used to fine-tune the native libhooker tweak injection method on the Odyssey and Taurine jailbreaks.
The libhooker Configurator app has received several updates since its initial release, but a new build launched just this weekend in the form of version 1.2 might be especially intriguing – especially for anyone using the Chimera jailbreak.
The Odyssey Team is out with yet another update for its iOS & iPadOS 14-centric Taurine jailbreak Wednesday morning after only just recently launching version 1.0.7 with boot loop mitigations and startup repairs to combat consequential data loss and forced software updates.
The latest update, dubbed Taurine version 1.1.0, was released to address known bugs and incorporate stability improvements.
If your jailbreak depends on libhooker for its primary method of tweak injection (I’m looking at you Odyssey and Taurine users), then you should find a new update is available upon launching Sileo and refreshing your sources.
In an announcement shared early this morning via the Sileo / Taurine / Odyssey Discord channel, Odyssey Team lead developer CoolStar divulged that an upcoming premium jailbreak package dubbed libhooker Pro would soon be made available to the general public.
Anyone who uses the Chimera jailbreak for iOS 12, Odyssey jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 13, Taurine jailbreak for iOS or iPadOS 14.0-14.3, or Odysseyra1n on a checkra1n-compatible device should know that libhooker is the tweak injection method that facilitates tweak-centric process hooking on these platforms. With that in mind, the concept of a pro version of libhooker is rather thought-provoking.
If you’re using a jailbreak that utilizes CoolStar’s libhooker tweak injection method, be it Chimera for iOS 12, Odyssey for iOS or iPadOS 13, Taurine for iOS or iPadOS 14, or Odysseyra1n for any firmware ranging from iOS 12 to iOS or iPadOS 14, then it would be advisable to launch the Sileo package manager and refresh your sources this morning.
Upon doing so, you should take notice of an updated iteration of libhooker, which appears to have been updated to version 1.6.0.
A brand-new one-click application for macOS called Betelguese by @23Aaron_ and @hbkirb is now available that lets checkra1n’d iPhone and iPad users install Odysseyra1n on their handset via the convenience of a graphical user interface (GUI) as opposed to pasting lengthy and complicated commands into a traditional command line interface (CLI).
When Betelguese is complete, your checkra1n jailbreak transforms into Odysseyra1n, which means that it will utilize the Procursus bootstrap with Sileo as the default package manager and libhooker as the tweak injection method. These will replace Cydia and Cydia Substrate or Substitute for tweak injection — the process that handles your jailbreak tweaks — whichever of the latter you might’ve had installed at the time.
