Walmart now offering 16GB iPad mini for $299

Apple received a lot of criticism when it introduced its iPad mini last October for $329. Critics felt that since other 7-inch tablets out at the time, like Google's Nexus 7 for example, were in the $200 range, Apple was crazy for pricing the mini so high.

But these days you don't have to pay quite that much to snag the tiny tablet. Last week we saw Apple offering a refurbished version of the 16GB Wi-Fi iPad mini for $299. And today, it looks like Walmart has matched that price for a brand new one...

Walmart expands iPhone scan-and-checkout option to 200+ more stores

It is an idea that was just waiting to be implemented: using your iPhone to scan product barcodes at retailers. Apparently, the world's largest chain of retail stores agrees. Walmart announced Wednesday it will offer the feature across more than 200 stores in twelve additional U.S. markets, stretching from Seattle to Oklahoma.

Although the move triples the size of the retail chain's Scan & Go program, Walmart said it still wants to get customer feedback before rolling out iPhone-based price checks in all stores...

Can AutoRip, Amazon’s answer to iTunes, also revive the music CD?

Amazon is taking another run at Apple, this time targeting iTunes. The online retail giant is hoping to increase its digital music market share by offering consumers free digital copies of purchased CDs. Hoping for a trifecta of sorts, the company looks to improve the fate of its Amazon MP3 service, increase exposure of it Cloud Player, while also chipping away at iTunes' 50 percent marke tshare.

Amazon AutoRip stores digital copies of among 50,000 eligible CD titles in the cloud. Music CD buyers automatically can play or download the digital versions using Cloud Player. The move, which seems similar to an earlier attempt to revive DVD sales, is now viewed as potentially reviving physical CD sales which iTunes essentially killed...

Walmart and Straight Talk Wireless have issued a press release announcing that starting this Friday, the retail giant will begin offering the iPhone 5 through the popular prepaid service. Best Buy accuses Walmart of hurting holiday iPhone 5 sales

Get ready to rumble! Best Buy, a gadget retailer that sells more iPhones than anyone but Apple, is charging the world's biggest retailer Walmart with unfairly pricing the iPhone 5 during holiday.

A number of states' attorney generals are looking into the allegation. Best Buy says it lost $65,000 a day trying to match the $150 price (later cut to $127) Walmart promoted in December.

The electronics retailer charges Walmart didn't have sufficient supplies to fulfill its holiday promotion of the regularly-priced $199 smartphone...

Here's a nice last minute holiday gift idea: if your loved ones use Apple products, give them iTunes Gift Cards that can be used to add credits to their iTunes account. Additionally, you card gets delivered through email right after purchase, depending on your credit card issuer's rules. Walmart is no stranger to such promotions. Back in August, the retailer was selling $100 iTunes cards for $80...

Walmart discounts iPhone 5 to just $127, starting December 17

Just in time for my birthday, retailer Walmart is shaving $72 off the entry-level iPhone 5 with sixteen gigabytes of storage. Beginning December 17, you'll be able to purchase the device for just $127, that's $22 less than the lowest price we could find at RadioShack, Target and Best Buy, which all offer Apple's phone with a cool $50 discount (and some gift cards). Walmart is also offering the previous-generation iPhone 4S for just $47 and a fourth-generation iPad for $399, a $100 saving...

Walmart stops Kindle sales, following Target’s lead

Amazon's $199 Kindle and low-price retailer Walmart would appear to be a match made in discount heaven, right? Then how do you explain today's news that Walmart is kicking Amazon to the curb? In a statement, Walmart only says the decision is part of its "overall merchandising strategy."

"Recently, Walmart Stores, Inc. made a business decision to not carry current Amazon products beyond our purchase commitments and existing inventory," the Bentonville, Ark. firm told store managers Wednesday. In the memo reported by Reuters, Walmart officials said the stores will continue to offer "a broad assortment of tablets, eReaders and accessories at a variety of great price points."

Walmart denies dropping iPhone 4/4S prices dramatically

Among the third-party retailers that sell Apple's handset, Walmart typically has some of the lowest prices. In fact, it's been selling 16GB versions of the iPhone 4S for just $188 since last November. And it looks like it's about to get a lot cheaper.

Cult of Mac has learned that Walmart is dropping the price of Apple's latest smartphone (AT&T model) down to $114 with a 2-year agreement. It also appears that the retail chain is lowering the price of its 8GB iPhone 4 as well, down to $34.

Unfortunately, discounts were a glitch in the system, Walmart confirmed in an official statement...

Walmart adopts Apple’s boutique store concept with stylish displays carrying iOS devices

Walmart has been selling the new iPad in select stores since the device launched last month. They've also had other Apple products on offer for some time.

Realizing it leaves a lot to be desired, the world's largest retailer is apparently ready to take the shopping experience for its demanding Apple customers to the next level.

Nice-looking photos of stylish Apple displays inside Walmart's store in Arkansas depict a radical departure from the retailer's otherwise dull and poorly maintained shelves carrying electronics.

Akin to a store-within-a-store idea seen at other retailers, the redesigned Apple section would suggest that the mega-retailer is keen on exploring Apple's boutique store concept...

Walmart to start selling new iPads at midnight

Yesterday we told you Apple confirmed that 8am on March 16th was the official launch date and time of the new iPad. But it appears that other retailers are looking to get a head start.
