Vimeo app updated with all new design, faster playback and more

Vimeo users will be happy to hear that the video streamer rolled out a new version of its iOS client today. The update brings the app to build number 4.1, and features an all-new design, as well as various other improvements.

The new design is noticeable from the second you launch the app. It has sort of an iOS 7 feel, with lightweight elements and streamlined menus, and overall navigation has been improved. More details and screenshots below...

Persistent search bar and swiping improvements added to Vimeo’s iOS app

Back in February, the video sharing service Vimeo added support for the handy swiping gesture to its free iOS app.

You can swipe right to reveal options to share a video, like it or add it to your Watch Later list. Swiping left marks a video for download so it can be accessible on your device without an Internet connection.

Today's update, now available in the App Store, removes the Watch Later option when you swipe from left to right, leaving only sharing and liking options in the menu. But don't worry, Watch Later is now available when you swipe from right to left. As a bonus, the app now adds a clip to your Watch Later list and marks it for download at the same time.

Vimeo version 4.0.10 also includes a new persistent search bar at the top, but more on this after the break...

Vimeo snatches up video-making iPhone app Cameo

For the second time in the past year, Vimeo has acquired an iOS app-maker. Following its purchase of Echograph, an app for creating GIFs, in early 2013, the video site has bought Cameo, an iPhone application for making short, high quality movies.

If you've never heard of Cameo before, that's probably because it just launched in October of last year. But it's been turning heads during its 6 months in the App Store—we named it one of our apps of the week, and Apple gave it a 'Best of 2013' award...

Vimeo updated with new gestures, improved AirDrop support and more

Vimeo users will notice that the video-sharing site pushed out an update for its iOS client this weekend, bringing the app to version 4.0.8. The update includes enhancements such as new gestures, deeper AirDrop integration and more.

As far as the new gestures go, you can now swipe left or right on a video thumbnail to share it, like it, or watch it later, or add it to your device. And with the improved AirDrop support, you can quickly share videos from device to device...

Vimeo update brings back Search to iPad, adds video actions

Vimeo, the popular video-sharing service, has updated its free iPhone and iPad application by bringing back the search feature to the iPad and adding the ability to tap and hold video thumbnails to share, download "and do other fun stuff".

Though originally part of the experience, the ability to search for videos got inexplicably removed as part of Vimeo's major iOS 7 overhaul.

The team re-enabled search on iPhone and iPod touch devices in mid-October and now the feature is finally making a comeback on iPads...

Vimeo gets AirDrop sharing, new Incoming feed and more

Vimeo, the popular YouTube alternative founded by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein in November 2004, has an excellent iPhone and iPad app which a year ago received a major makeover and has been the choice of many videographers who demand higher quality with less restrictions than Google's video sharing service.

The company today pushed another interesting feature update finally bringing AirDrop video sharing between compatible devices, plus a new Incoming feed. As you could imagine, there are usual bug fixes and performance improvements in this update and a useful option where you can choose to have Vimeo use Wi-Fi or cellular connection when syncing videos...

Vimeo app update brings back Search feature

Following the release of its big iOS 7 update, several users noticed that the ability to search for videos was gone from Vimeo's app. And sure enough, the team confirmed it didn't make the cut for their deadline.

But the good news is, a new update for the app posted today, bringing the iOS client to version 4.0.4. And it brings back the Search function, allowing you to get back to discovering new videos while on the go...

WSJ: ‘new ways’ to share photos, videos in iOS 7

Throwing its proverbial credibility behind a recent rumor of iOS 7 having native Flickr and Vimeo integration, the credulous Wall Street Journal has just published a write-up which asserts that Apple's upcoming iOS revision will feature photo-sharing enhancements alongside new look. iOS 7 will include "new ways to share photos and videos" with other users, people who are reportedly involved in its development said...

Apple to add system-wide Vimeo and Flickr support in iOS 7

Details regarding iOS 7 are still fairly scarce, despite the fact that WWDC is just a few weeks away. Apple has said that it will be previewing its next-generation mobile operating system at its annual developer conference next month.

We do know a few things though. Most of the rumors suggest iOS 7 will feature a UI overhaul, in favor of a much flatter design. And according to a new report, Apple will also be beefing up social ties with Vimeo and Flickr integration...

Video sharing service Vimeo (which in March 2011 released an awesome, free universal iOS client) has snapped up Echograph, an animated GIF app for the iPhone and iPad by Clear-Media. Vimeo wrote in a media release that as part of the acquisition, the Echograph app, previously costing three bucks, is now a free download.

Echograph wants to be the Instagram of animated GIFs by providing easy to use tools to help make animated photography a reality. You can simply paint and touch up moving images as if they were stills and then use your creations in in Final Cut, Keynote, iBooks Author or the web, via HTML5...

Reimagined Vimeo app ditches video editor, simplifies video uploads and sharing

Vimeo has updated and reimagined its iPhone app to simplify video uploads and improve sharing via Facebook and Twitter. Vimeo was released on the iPhone back in March of last year. It was updated in January with native iPad support and full-screen video playback. Today's update is the first build created entirely in-house and features a cleaner interface that forgoes the grid system in favor of a tab-based navigation.

The clunky video editor is gone and the program now begins uploading your videos in the background while you're still editing tags, captions and other meta data. Go past the jump for more information and changelog....
