How to use Ultrasn0w Fixer to unlock your A4 device on iOS 5.1

When Apple released iOS 5.1 last week, the update didn't just break the previous jailbreaks. It also broke the software unlock for the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 known as Ultrasn0w.

While this may not be a very big deal to most people, it's rather inconvenient for folks who need to use their iPhone on multiple networks. Luckily, a temporary fix has surfaced in Cydia known as Ultrasn0w Fixer. And even luckier, we're going to show you how to install it...

How to unlock the iPhone 4S using the R-SIM interposer

I'll admit that I've never used a Gevey SIM interposer, or anything like it in the past, but I figured I'd give it a shot with the iPhone 4S.

The iPhone 4S has its own special SIM interposer called the R-SIM II Ultra S, which was recently released.

I'm happy to report that this is by far the easiest method for "unlocking" your iPhone 4S, and using it with T-Mobile or virtually any other GSM carrier. And guess what, no jailbreak is required.

Check out our review of the iPhone 4S R-SIM tool inside...

China Mobile isn’t an iPhone partner, but it still has 15 million iPhone users

China Mobile is the world's largest wireless carrier, by almost any measurement, with over 650 million mobile subscribers. Its sheer size has made the operator a prime target for Apple partnership rumors, but the two companies have yet to ink out a deal.

But that hasn't stopped folks from using the iPhone on China Mobile's gigantic network. Last fall the carrier announced that it was tracking more than 10 million unlocked iPhone users. And today, just 6 months later, it says that number has gone up 50%...

Unofficial factory unlock service for iPhone CutYourSim is back

CutYourSim, the unofficial official service that offers permanent factory unlocks for a variety of devices, has started proposing factory unlocks for the iPhone 4S and other models.

The company gained in popularity last year when it was one of the first to offer that type of service, until Apple cracked down on them and similar services that had been flourishing all over the net, forcing them to stop their activity.

But it looks like CutYourSim figured out how to get around those restrictions, as the company announced this morning that it is now taking orders for official and permanent unlock solutions for iPhones...

Gevey releases SIM unlock for iPhone 4S

Back in November, the Dev Team announced they had found a very promising iPhone 4S unlock, but there hasn't been any news on that front ever since. We've had an untethered jailbreak for A5 devices for a while, but the cherry on top would be to get a software unlock via UltraSn0w for the iPhone 4S.

While we're waiting for a software unlock, a few Chinese companies are working on a hardware unlock. We've recently heard about new comers who claimed having a SIM interposer unlock for the iPhone 4S – TPSIM and R-SIM – but we can't recommend those yet as we haven't been able to give them a try.

Today, Gevey, a familiar name to us, is releasing the Gevey Ultra S unlock for iPhone 4S...

R-SIM SIM interposer unlocks your iPhone 4S on iOS 5 and 5.0.1

Even though we are still waiting on an iPhone 4S software unlock from the Dev Team, there are a couple of hardware unlock solutions available. Just last week we told you about the TPSIM SIM interposer, and now another one has surfaced.

The R-SIM is a turbo SIM card for your iPhone 4S that will unlock your handset, allowing you to use it on any compatible GSM network in the world...

New SIM interposer promises to unlock iPhone 4/4S on a number of basebands

Unlocking is not nearly as important to iPhone users as it once was. Over the last couple of years, Apple has opened up its popular handset to hundreds of new carriers, and has even started selling its own factory unlocked models.

But if you don't want to spend $650 buying the unlocked version of Apple's new iPhone 4S, you have a few other options. One, you could wait for the iPhone Dev team to release its unlock for the new handset. Or you can pre-order one of these...

T-Mobile Working on Improving Support for Unlocked iPhones

You gotta feel for T-Mobile — it's had a rough couple of months. Not only has the company's AT&T merger deal fallen through the cracks, but it continues to be excluded from iPhone partnership.

When Sprint picked up the iPhone last October, T-Mobile became the only major carrier in the US to not officially offer Apple's popular handset. But that hasn't stopped it from supporting the device...

iPhone 4S Users Planning on Unlocking Should Remain on iOS 5.0

Although multiple warnings have suggested that iPhone 4S users update to iOS 5.0.1 before it's too late, a new report from iClarified claims that these users should actually remain on iOS 5.0 to ensure the greatest possibility of unlocking their device in the future, should they ever need to unlock.

The news came from MuscleNerd who confirmed that an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S running iOS 5 will be released soon after the iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak...

Potential Jailbreakers Should Update to iOS 5.0.1 Before It’s Too Late!

It's a busy and exciting time for the jailbreak community. In the last couple of weeks we've seen the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for A4-based devices go live in the form of RedSn0w, PwnageTool, and The Chronic Dev Team's Corona tool. Moments ago we announced that the security expert known as pod2g expects to drop the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users next week.

Now is the time to update to Apple's latest firmware, iOS 5.0.1. Even if you rely on an UltraSn0w unlock, you should update as soon as possible before it's too late to get the untethered jailbreak on 5.0.1.

Top Jailbreak Videos of the Week

This past week was the biggest week for the jailbreak community in quite some time. The iOS 5 untethered jailbreak was released, along with a legal Siri Port entitled Spire. Not only that, but we also saw multitasking gestures make their way to the iPhone by means of Zephyr.
