Tweetbot updated with support for Instagram video

Facebook caused quite a commotion last week when they unveiled a new Instagram feature that allows you to capture and post 15-second videos. It was an instant hit, prompting users to upload more than 5 million clips in just 24 hours.

My Twitter stream has since been flooded with Instagram videos, posted by everyone from celebrities to tech pundits. And unfortunately, because I use Tweetbot, I haven't been able to watch them in-app. But that changed this afternoon...

Tweetbot for Mac refreshed with Media timeline, profile cover image support

TapBots' Tweetbot to this date is my go-to Twitter client, both on iOS and Mac. The iOS app was updated a month ago with a handy new Media timeline, revamped image viewer and a few under-the-hood tweaks. Today, Tapbots gave the Mac edition some love.

On top of fixing a few nagging issues, the new Tweetbot 1.3 brings the Media timeline to your desktop. As part of Twitter's new guidelines, tweet details now have favorite and retweet counts, which comes in handy when checking how viral a tweet is. Another nice-to-have: the Mac edition now supports Twitter's profile cover images...

TweetBot 2.8 released with Media Timeline and overhauled image viewer

TapBot's TweetBot isn't the most affordable Twitter client on iOS, but the download is definitely worth every cent, at least as far as I'm concerned.

And with Twitter killing off its TweetDeck software on iOS, Android and AIR platforms beginning May 7, the selection of free Twitter clients on the App Store is about to become a little less comprehensive.

If you were looking for an excuse to treat yourself to a copy of TweetBot - which costs three bucks for the iPhone/iPod touch and an additional $3 for the iPad edition - you'll be wise to consider taking the plunge following today's update, TweetBot 2.8. Check out the new features right after the break...

How Tweetbot pirates expose themselves on Twitter

Just to make it clear: iDB does not condone piracy. Quite the opposite, we strongly condemn it. While no accurate data exist on how widespread the App Store piracy issue is, by all accounts it's anything but neglectable, especially when certain dudes jailbreak their devices with the sole purpose of using pirated apps. Tapbots, the people behind the popular Twitter client called Tweetbot, has found a novel way to identify users who are pirating the app.

It gets even better: these folks actually have been exposing themselves on - oh the irony - Twitter. Regardless, I doubt public exposure is going to shame them, let alone persuade them to pay for Tweetbot...

Tweetbot for iOS and Mac updated to comply with Twitter’s API changes

As many of you may know, Twitter announced a lengthy list of changes to its API used by third party clients last fall. The deadline for developers to meet the new requirements is March 5th, and apps that don't comply will cease functioning.

As such, the Tapbots team has updated both its iOS and Mac Tweetbot apps today to adhere to the new API changes. Most of the them are under the hood, but you will notice some UI differences. We've got the full change logs after the fold...

Use 3G Unrestrictor to enable streaming over cellular in Tweetbot

Tweetbot, my favorite Twitter client by a country mile, takes well advantage of Twitter's streaming API for instant timeline updates with no manual refresh. It works very well, but unfortunately Tweetbot requires you to be connected to Wi-Fi in order to use the feature. What to do now? Fake a Wi-Fi connection, of course!

3G Unrestrictor has many uses, and one such use is to enable Twitter streaming in Tweetbot over a cellular connection. Check out our brief video inside.

Tweetbot gains support for Chrome, Flickr, Vine and 1Password

Here's another nice Tweetbot update for your iPhone or iPad. A new version, Tweetbot 2.7, is now live on the App Store with some interesting new features. For starters, Tweetbot can now open links from tweets in Google's Chrome browser, provided it's installed on your iDevice. The app will also render Flickr images in-line, as well as 6-second clips tweeted out using Twitter's new Vine app. Lastly, links from tweets can also be sent to the 1Password app's built-in browser in order to access password-protected web sites without having to remember your credentials...

How to write longer tweets with TweetAmplius

Do you have lots of contacts in Twitter, but aren't crazy about limiting your tweets to 140 characters? Do you you use tweet expander services and URL shorteners, and find they're more hassle than they're worth?

TweetAmplius is a jailbreak tweak that takes your plus-sized tweets and automatically runs them through Pastie, Instapaper, and the URL shortener 'is.gd'. The tweak plugs into the official Twitter app, as well as Tweetbot, if you prefer. TweetAmplius provides a seamless long tweet experience in iOS...

Good news: Tweetbot for Mac is out. Bad news: it costs $20

TapBots' beloved Twitter client Tweetbot has finally arrived for the Mac, following an extensive period of beta testing since July. The bad news is, it will run you a whopping twenty bucks a pop! It's not that developers have become greedy overnight, mind you. As you know, Twitter has capped their user base in a quest to exercise total control of third-party programs.

Twitter is doing so by enforcing token limits upon third-party developers. Tokens determine how many users an app like Tweetbot for Mac can have. As a result, developers get to only sell the app until they use up all the tokens Twitter allocated.

That's the official line. Some people think it's crap, others point the finger of blame at Twitter. You could call it economics, I guess. No matter how you look at it, Tweetbot for Mac - at least to my knowledge - has officially become the priciest Twitter client on the Mac App Store...

Tweetbot gets better mute filters, enhanced search view with nearby tweets

Tweetbot, a popular Twitter client for iOS devices, just got updated with a couple new additions and various enhancements, including a reworked search view with location-based searching and nearby tweets.

You will also love the combined search for people and terms, relocated Trends and People categories, offline supprot for favorites and read later services, improved keyword mute filters, basic smart quote support when composing and other nice-to-haves...

Tweetbot gets updated with new gestures and more

A new version of TweetBot for iOS has popped up in the App Store today, bringing the popular Twitter client to version 2.3. The update is a sizable one, featuring a number of new additions and bug fixes.

The theme of 2.3 seems to be all about speed. If you've ever disliked Tweetbot because you felt it was too slow, this new version might be worth trying — it's much faster. Keep reading for the full changelog...

Tweetbot’s iCloud sync is brilliant

A couple of weeks ago version 2.2 of Tweetbot — my favorite Twitter client for iOS — was released to the public.

While that update included a number of interesting new features and obligatory bug fixes, the new iCloud sync capabilities stand head and shoulders above everything else.

One of the things that has always annoyed me about Twitter clients, and by extension Tweetbot, is that there was no reliable method for picking up where you left off across multiple devices. I know Tweet Marker support was there before, but I've never had very much success with it, and it only works with timelines.

I have Tweetbot installed on two iPhones, two iPads, and an iPod touch. As you can probably imagine, it doesn't take long for things to get really messy when tweeting from all of those different devices at various points in time.

That's where the beauty of iCloud comes in. The new iCloud sync makes Tweetbot a seamless Twitter experience, able to sync timelines, mute filters, and even DM read statuses across multiple iOS devices...
