PhotoAlbums+, PwnTunes, and iRealSMS updated for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5

Want apps that are already compatible with the iOS 6 and the iPhone 5? Want to update your music library without using iTunes, reply instantly to text messages, and organize your photo albums?

SpiritOfLogic had their three flagship apps PwnTunes, iRealSMS, and PhotoAlbums+ ready for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 well in advance of the evasi0n jailbreak...

BatteryPeek shows your battery percentage only when needed

There are times when it's useful to know exactly how much battery life you have left on your phone. But since you're not checking it every second, the percentage meter mostly just adds clutter to the status bar.

With the new BatteryPeek tweak in Cydia, you can have the best of both worlds: the tweak will hide the percentage meter, until you actually want to know how much power you have left...

Springtomize 2 updated with iPhone 5 support and several bug fixes

When the evasi0n website went live Monday morning, I wasted no time jailbreaking my iPhone 5. I had convinced myself that I didn't miss my tweaks very much, but as soon as I was able to, I started downloading them.

The first one I grabbed—and it's one of only a few I have installed—is Filippo Bigarella's Springtomize 2. It's probably one of the most full-featured tweaks available, and it just got updated with full support for the iPhone 5...

Source Saver automatically backs up your additional Cydia repos

Don't you hate it when you restore your iPhone and all the progress you've made getting your tweaks just right gets wiped away? There are packages on Cydia that make it easy to directly backup your tweaks, but workarounds like PKGBackup can cause issues, especially if you wind up automatically installing software that is no longer compatible with your device.

Source Saver gives you an intermediate solution with fewer risks. With the press of a button, Source Saver will backup the repos you've added to Cydia. This way you won't have to manually add Ryan Petrich's beta repository to Cydia, or dig through sites to find the address for the DosPad repo...

FullForce for iPhone stretches older apps to fit on your iPhone 5 screen

We recently published a post about ScreenExtender, a free tweak available in Cydia that forces legacy apps to stretch to the iPhone 5’s taller screen. As we published the post, Ryan Petrich came up with his own solution to stretch older apps to take advantage of the taller iPhone 5 screen.

Similar to his iPad tweak called FullForce, FullForce for iPhone forces applications to show in full screen mode on the taller device...

iTransmission 3 released, a BitTorrent client exclusive to iOS 6

One of the utilities you aren't going to find in iTunes is a fully featured BitTorrent client. While BitTorrent doesn't have the best reputation in mainstream media, not all torrents constitute piracy and not all piracy occurs over BitTorrent. A good BitTorrent client is handy to have, and their absence on iTunes provides savvy users with another reason to jailbreak.

iTransmission 3 isn't just an update of the popular iOS BitTorrent client with support for iOS 6 thrown in. The jailbreak app comes complete with an improved UI, an updated backend, and exclusive compatibility with iOS 6...

Photo Organizer let’s you easily edit the Camera Roll and Albums

The developer who goes by the name of Lordscotland should call himself LordOfAwesomeTweaks. His backlog of jailbreak apps includes incredibly useful freebies like Safari Download Enabler and PDF Printer for Safari. His latest tweak is called Photo Organizer, which provides users with more control over all their photo albums including the Camera Roll.

Want to reorder photos and videos in your Camera Roll? Delete photos from your camera roll without removing them from every other album? Move photos without constantly making duplicates and wasting space? If so, Photo Organizer shows us that Apple's default methods aren't always best...

ScreenExtender forces legacy apps to stretch to the iPhone 5’s taller screen

We've seen tweaks in the past like FullForce which essentially transform iPhone apps into full screen iPad apps. Since Apple reassured developers that adding official support for the iPhone 5's screen would be a snap for most apps through Xcode, we didn't think full screen support for the left behind apps would be much of a stretch for jailbreak developers.

Turns out it wasn't a stretch. Just two days after the evasi0n jailbreak is released, a new app on Cydia called Screen Extender brings full screen support to users of the iPhone 5 or 5th generation iPod touch...

Use CydiaUpdates to manually install .deb packages when Cydia is unreliable

Remember when Jay Freeman said that Cydia wouldn't get bogged down by the massive demand for users of the evasion jailbreak, thanks to measures like including the package catalog in Cydia? The lesson here is to never underestimate the demand for jailbreaking. At its peak, Freeman's servers were hit with over 4 million HTTP hits per five minutes. There aren't many independent websites that can survive that kind of spike in traffic overnight, so it shouldn't be a surprise that downloading tweaks through the Cydia app remains an unreliable process...

Quick Reply for Viber now available in Cydia

Are you a fan of the BiteSMS jailbreak tweak, but prefer using services other than iMessage or SMS to send texts to your friends? Back in June, Delicious Inc. released Quick Reply for WhatsApp; which essentially brought BiteSMS's quick reply pane to WhatsApp's notifications. Today, on the heels of the release of the evasi0n jailbreak, the developers behind BiteSMS bring a similar tweak to Viber in iOS 5 and iOS 6.

Viber is another cross platform messaging app that allows users to make free calls, as well as send texts and photos. The original app works between iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Nokia, and Bada. It's a free alternative platform that is compatible with every major smartphone on the market. Viber is growing in popularity, so it's ripe for a jailbreak tweak of its own...

How some of our favorite jailbreak apps look like on the iPhone 5 [Video]

The just released evasi0n jailbreak is remarkable for a few reasons. For starters, it's the first untethered jailbreak released for iOS 6. Secondly, it's the first time that iPhone 5 owners have had the luxury of experiencing Cydia, and all of the jailbreak apps that come with it, on the larger screen.

We've seen a few folks tease us in the past with Cydia running on the iPhone 5, but never have you had the ability to experience it for yourself, firsthand. Inside this post, we'll showcase a few of our favorite jailbreak apps and tweaks, and show you how they look on the iPhone's 5 larger screen.

Use your iOS device as USB flash storage with roqyUSB

One of the features I've missed from the classic iPods is the ability to plug the devices into a computer in order to directly access their hard drives or flash memory. When I was in school, I didn't carry a USB key around with me because I always had my iPod and everyone had the cables handy. While there is software that can transfer files between an iPhone and a PC, we're generally not permitted to install programs on shared computers.

One solution is roqyUSB, a jailbreak utility that allows users to create virtual hard disks which can be accessed by USB. This isn't the first virtual USB drive we've seen for jailbroken devices, but it is the first we've seen in a default repository...
