How I converted my Micro SIM into a Nano SIM

Before I get this party started, I just want to say that no, I don't have an iPhone 5 to absolutely guarantee it'll work in the device, but all that's really involved is some pretty basic math.

In this tutorial, I'll show you how I cut and shaved my Micro SIM down to Nano SIM sized specifications. It's not a 100% 1:1 ratio, but the size is very comparable to what you will find in an official Nano SIM. For that reason I'm feeling pretty confident that it will work with my iPhone 5 next Friday.

Take a look inside for the step-by-step video walkthrough that shows how I converted my Micro SIM card to a Nano sized SIM card.

Parts vendor offering new permanent unlock service for AT&T iPhones

Apple N Berry is an online parts vendor that also deals in iPhone unlock solutions. We actually point to the store quite often when mentioning GEVEY Ultra products — they usually have them.

But now it's offering something much different than interposers. The vendor has just launched a new IMEI unlock service that, it promises, will permanently unlock all AT&T iPhone models...

Carriers reportedly testing Nano SIM cards in partnership with Apple

We told you earlier in the week that European wireless carriers were stockpiling Nano SIM cards in the hope that the next iPhone will incorporate the newly ratified technology which enables thinner devices due to a 40 percent smaller footprint versus the Micro SIM standard.

As you know, Apple's Nano SIM proposal was chosen last month by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute as the industry standard, following weeks of bickering between Apple on one side and Nokia, Motorola and Research In Motion on the other.

A new report from this morning has it that Apple is supplying its carrier partners with Nano SIM adapters so they could test Nano SIMs on existing devices before the next iPhone arrives in October...

European carriers stocking up on nano-SIMs ahead of new iPhone launch

Last month, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (or ETSI) gave Apple's nano-SIM card proposal the green light. The new card offers the same functionality as current SIM cards, but take up significantly less space.

According to a new report this afternoon, European carriers are expecting Apple to utilize the new card in its upcoming smartphone. And they've already begun stocking up on nano-SIMs in anticipation of an early fall release...

Apple’s 40 percent smaller Nano SIM proposal gets a go-ahead

Following an amusing public back and forth between Apple on one side and Research In Motion, Motorola and Nokia on the other, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) this morning decided to officially back Apple's proposal for an upcoming miniaturized SIM card standard that provides for a thinner, smaller mobile devices...

Motorola and RIM submit a Nano SIM compromise

Earlier this month, we showed you Apple's revised Nano SIM proposal the company submitted ahead of the final vote tally. The solution adds a small amount of plastic around the edges of the electrical contacts, making the upcoming tiny SIM card just long enough so that it can’t be forced lengthwise into an incompatible socket.

As you know, Research and Motion, Motorola and Nokia are pushing for their own variant. Both RIM and Motorola just submitted a Nano SIM compromise which borrows about 80 percent design solutions from Apple...

Apple’s modified Nano SIM gets a showing off ahead of the final vote

An Apple-proposed variant of the upcoming Nano SIM card standard is being shown off at the International CTIA Wireless show. Apple modified the design around Nokia's concerns and ahead of the final vote tally, which is mere days away. Voting for members of The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) began last month and wraps up in mid-May.

According to SIM card maker Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), the revised variant is being "driven by a supplier", in this case Apple. So, how has Apple changed the original design to counter Nokia's concerns? With a slight 'how come I didn't think of it' tweak, that's how...

Straight Talk: the silent iPhone partner

Carrier options for US iPhone customers have dramatically multiplied over the past two years. The handset, which was once only available from AT&T, is now offered on nine wireless providers across the country.

Actually, 10 carriers if you count Straight Talk. You may or may not know this, but the nationwide prepaid provider is compatible with the GSM iPhone. You don't even need to unlock your handset to switch to it...

Rumor: familiar-looking ‘iPhone 5’ SIM tray surfaces

For the second time in the last two weeks, a parts vendor has leaked a purported 'iPhone 5' component. Last Tuesday we saw some Home buttons surface that reportedly belonged to Apple's next-generation handset, and now we've come across a SIM card tray.

As noted by MacRumors, SW-BOX.com has posted some information on a claimed 'iPhone 5' SIM card tray that it's apparently just obtained from one of its parts suppliers. And, as the site points out, it looks nearly identical to its iPhone 4/4S counterpart...

RIM accuses Apple of dirty tricks as ETSI postpones vote on Nano SIM

Apple's push for a new SIM card standard dubbed Nano SIM is in troubled waters as BlackBerry maker Research in Motion has sent a letter out suggesting that foul play may be afoot. Meanwhile, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) has postponed vote on Nano SIM due to a dispute between Apple and Nokia over Nano SIM patents.

RIM's letter claims Apple's own personnel register themselves as working for the competition in order to try and rig a vote that will decide the outcome of a bid to make the Nano SIM a new standard.

The Canadian firm believes that members of Apple's team have registered to vote claiming to work for Bell Mobility, SK Telekom and KT Corp. If true, Apple may have some answering to do...

Unlock your CDMA iPhone 4S with Gevey Ultra S Interposer SIM

The folks over at HowToarena are reporting that a new SIM interposer for the iPhone 4S is about to hit the market. The GEVEY Ultra S promises to unlock both GSM and CDMA handsets, which is a fairly big deal.

We've already seen a couple of SIM interposers launch for Apple's latest handset this year. Last month alone we told you about two new products, the R-SIM and TP-SIM. But neither worked with Sprint handsets...

“No SIM Card” Error Plaguing Some iPhone 4S Users

Apple has had its hands full with iPhone 4S issues over the past month. There's been reports of poor battery performance (associated with iOS 5), audio echoing during phone calls, and connection issues with both Wi-Fi and 3G networks.

Now it appears that another problem with the device has surfaced in Apple's discussion boards. One support forum is filled with iPhone 4S users that are getting frequent "No SIM card installed" errors, rendering their smartphones practically useless...
