Yunasoft’s new productivity/utility entry in the iTunes App Store, Awesome Calendar, boasts big about its capabilities. As well it should. By now, you probably know that I’m neither a fan of cases nor screen protectors, so when the folks at SGP asked me if I’d like to check out their new screen protector for iPhone 4S, I gave them my boilerplate answer: “you may send it to me but I make no guarantee that I will review it on iDB.”

I was really intrigued by SGP’s GLAS.t premium tempered glass screen protector right off the bat though. As far as I know, this is the very first screen protector for iPhone entirely made of glass, and after seeing the video demo, I knew I wanted to try it despite my disdain for screen protectors.

There is no doubting that our iOS devices are beginning to use even more power than their ever-increasing batteries can provide them. It’s an unfortunate fact that while we continue to crave smaller, thinner and lighter device, something inevitably has to give. In most cases, that thing is battery life.

The iPhone 4S for example isn’t exactly known for its ability to hold a charge. We’ve covered various power-related issues with the iPhone 4S over the months since its release, and alas, things don’t really seem to have improved with subsequent iOS releases. What we need is a way of extending our iPhone’s battery prowess, and the easiest way to do that is to get a battery pack.

One battery pack that we’ve been putting through its paces recently is the SPIGEN SGP F16s battery pack for the iPhone. When the iPad 2 came out last year, it was like I had fallen in love all over again with Apple’s tablet. It was such an improvement over the first iPad that I couldn’t let go of it for more than a few instants. Of course, the novelty stir wore off, and after a few weeks, I started dreaming about what the iPad 3 could look like or what new features it would come loaded with. Surely, Apple would awe me again.

The Retina display was without a doubt the number one feature I expected from the iPad 3, so you can imagine my excitement when Apple confirmed the new iPad would come with a 2048×1536 display, packing more than 3 million pixels. After all, I don’t need much from a tablet. All I do with it is browse the web, read news, reply to emails, tweet, and my new hobby, editing pictures shot with my iPhone. So really the Retina display is all I wanted, although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t expect Apple to amaze me with features I hadn’t even thought of.

And maybe that’s one of the problems we have with every Apple product launch. We expect too much. The company has set the bar so high, so quickly, that we’re always waiting for them to give us more, more, more, and more. We’re expecting the unexpectable.

The new iPad. Two generations from the somewhat enigmatic, yet overwhelmingly successful debut, Apple’s latest tablet is firing on all cylinders.

No longer is there a question as to whether such a device has a place in people’s day to day lives, it’s now a question of how many such devices are necessary to have for one household.
