Apple seeds OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 beta 1 to developers

Thursday, Apple seeded the first beta of the upcoming OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 software update to its Mac developers, as first reported by MacRumors. Registered Mac developers can grab the installer manually through Apple's portal for developers, or automatically, using the OS X Software Update Seed Configuration Utility.

We'll be reporting on any interesting new features, changes and enhancements in OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 beta 1 as we encounter them.

Business owners can now claim POIs as their own via Apple Maps on iOS 8.3 and OS X 10.10.3

One of the welcome changes in the iOS 8.3 and OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 software updates, which hit yesterday, includes the ability for business owners to claim any point of interest as their own using an updated Report a Problem tool in Apple Maps for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Mac, as reported Thursday by AppleMapsMarketing.

The company began allowing local businesses to manage their listing in the service last October, but required them to use its Maps Connect web service.

At the same time, the iPhone maker appears to be removing some TripAdvisor hotel reviews which started showing up in its Maps service last week.

OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 with Photos for Mac, 300 new emojis and other enhancements now available

As promised earlier this morning, Apple has now released the OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite software update for public consumption. It comes with the long-expected Photos app replacing iPhoto as the default consumer photo-management solution on Macs.

Other new features in the 1.52-gigabyte update include 300 new emoji with racially diverse designs, improvements to Wi-Fi networking, bug fixes, performance improvements and more. The software is available via the Mac App Store's Updates tab.

OS X 10.10.3 with Photos for Mac dropping today

Get your Macs ready for a major software refresh as Apple gears up to release the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 software update with the long-awaited Photos for Mac app and other improvements.

Associated Press, which ran a review of Photos for Mac earlier this morning and first reported that the software update is due today, praised the software's professional-level and advanced fine-tuning tools such as granular color correction.

“Apple’s new Photos app for Mac computers, available Wednesday as a free software update, makes it easy to organize and edit your pictures,” the news organization wrote.

Apple seeds OS X 10.10.3 beta 6 to developers, public testers

Apple seeded another beta of OS X 10.10.3 on Monday for both members of the Mac Developer Center and public beta testers. The new build, available to download through the Mac App Store's Software Update mechanism, carries the build number 14D127 - compared to the previous build number of 14D113 that was released one week ago.

New security update is available for OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 users

Thursday, Apple issued a new security update for Mac users running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. The update, titled 'Security Update 2015-003 1.0,' is available right now through the Updates tab of the Mac App Store and is recommended for all users as it improves the security of OS X.

If you're running a public beta of OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, you won't see this update because the stable OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 release is bound to include contents of today's security update.

Apple seeds new OS X 10.10.3 beta to developers, public testers

Apple seeded a new beta of its upcoming OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 update this morning. The software, labeled build 14D105g, is available through the Update tab in the Mac App Store for public testers, as well as the online Dev Center for all Mac developers.

The release comes less than a week after the previous OS X 10.10.3 beta, and it appears that it is nearly identically to its predecessor, save for a fix for a problem that prevented beta 3 from working with the 2015 Retina MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Apple reminds users it’s pulling Aperture from the Mac App Store this spring

Apple on Thursday began sending out emails to Aperture users, reminding them that the software has been discontinued. When the new Photos app for OS X launches this spring, Aperture will be removed from the Mac App Store.

Users will still be able to use the popular photo editor in OS X Yosemite, but when the removal occurs, you will no longer be able to buy additional copies. Apple also notes that Aperture libraries can by migrated into Photos OS X.

Yosemite 10.10.3 beta with Photos for Mac now available via OS X Public Beta program

The first beta of the forthcoming OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 software update which contains the long-expected Photos for Mac application, is now available via the AppleSeed Public Beta service.

Participants in the OS X Public Beta program can download the software update right now via the Updates tab of the Mac App Store. The public beta carries a build number of 14D87, the same like the second 10.10.3 beta that the company seeded to its registered Mac developers a week ago.

iTunes 12.1 update introduces a widget for Notification Center

Apple this evening posted the first notable update for iTunes 12 since the music management app was refreshed for OS X Yosemite back in October of last year. The release comes labeled as iTunes 12.1, and it includes a new media control widget for Notification Center.

The widget includes back, forward and pause buttons, much like the buttons on the Lock screen and in Control Center of iOS, as well as track information. And, when playing iTunes Radio, the widget allows you to favorite songs and purchase the currently playing song.
