Dual-lens 2017 iPhone models to feature dual optical image stabilization

Apple's single-lens iPhone 7 and dual-lens iPhone 7 Plus both support the optical image stabilization (OIS) feature for taking sharper images and capturing stabilized videos. Next year's dual-lens iPhone models, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, will support OIS on both the the wide-angle lens and the telephoto lens. The iPhone 7 Plus supports auto focus on both cameras on the back, but only the wide-angle lens is outfitted with OIS.

New video illustrates how much of a difference OIS makes in the iPhone 6s Plus

We speculated about the difference between the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus when it comes to the lack of optical image stabilization in the former. We've even read first hand accounts of how much of a difference it makes.

But seeing is believing, and this new video really emphasizes the differences between taking video with the iPhone 6s, a device that lacks OIS, and the iPhone 6s Plus, which features OIS built in. If you plan on taking lots of handheld videos with your new iPhone, you don't want to miss this.

Gruber: Optical Image Stabilization in the iPhone 6s Plus makes a big difference for video

It's one of those things where you don't know how noticeable it's going to be until you actually try it in hand. But tonight, we have it on good authority that Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) makes a noticeable difference when shooting video with the iPhone 6s Plus' camera. So much so, that it can make choosing between the 6s Plus and the regular-sized iPhone 6s, a device that lacks OIS, tougher than last year.

A few hours ago, Daring Fireball's John Gruber posted his annual iPhone review, and while the entire piece is a well-thought-out and nuanced read, one portion in particular stood out to me the most—his thoughts on OIS for the iPhone 6s Plus.

Photographer tests iPhone 6/Plus cameras, Focus Pixels, Exposure Control, OIS and more

As Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus hit store shelves in the United States and a few major markets around the world, first hands-on videos are appearing online (and let's not forget about torture tests, too).

Teaming up with The Verge, professional photographer Austin Mann put the handsets' enhanced cameras through the paces on beautiful locations in Iceland.

He took a series of photographs and videos that do an excellent job showing off improvements such as the new Focus Pixels, manual Exposure Control, higher-resolution Panorama photography, Slo-Mo video enhancements and Optical Image Stabilization.

The results are quite impressive: the more accurate sensor, Apple's enhanced signal image processor inside the A8 chip and iOS 8's software improvements enable noticeably sharper images, despite the same eight-megapixel camera resolution.
