If You Haven’t Already Updated to iOS 4.3.3, You Can’t Anymore

by Alex Heath on Jul 18, 2011

Apple will no longer allow users to update or restore an iOS device to iOS 4.3.3. The signing window for 4.3.3 has been closed, meaning that you can no longer restore a device to 4.3.3 in iTunes without previously saved SHSH blobs from that firmware.

This news is important for jailbreakers that are either considering using JailbreakMe on iOS 4.3.3, or those that may have possibly upgraded to an iOS 5 beta without saving their blobs. The recently released iOS 4.3.4 kills the untethered jailbreak that was previously offered in iOS 4.3.x, so 4.3.3 is the most up to date firmware that offers an untethered jailbreak. Read More

Gevey SIM Blocked on iOS Beta 2

by Alex Heath on Jun 25, 2011

The Gevey SIM allows you to unlock your iPhone without the need of a jailbreak. The SIM card force activates the iPhone’s baseband by exploiting the emergency dialer function.

Apple released iOS 5 Beta 2 last night, and it appears that the Gevey SIM is now blocked from working in this second iOS build. It’s suspected that Gevey will try to battle Apple’s patching of its interposer while iOS 5 is still in the beta testing stages.  Read More

For the first time in history, Apple is now offering factory unlocked iPhones in the U.S. If you walk into your local Apple store, or browse online, you can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4 for operation on any compatible carrier. These unlocked devices start at $649.

AT&T does not currently offer unlocked iPhones in the United States. AT&T has yet to state if it will offer unlocked iPhones in its stores, or if the GSM carrier will unlock previously purchased iPhones. Read More

New in iOS 5: Stop the Hackers Tapping Your Line With Unsecured Call Warnings

by Guest Author on Jun 8, 2011

Did you know that while you’re running iOS 4 on your iPhone, hackers can intercept your phone calls and listen in on your conversations like they do in the movies? Thankfully, however, a new feature in iOS 5 will warn you when you’re at risk.

Under the first beta release of iOS 5, if you attempt to make a call that hackers can tap into, you will receive a warning to tell you that the network you’re using is not encrypted… Read More

Over-the-Air Updates in iOS 5 Shouldn’t Affect Jailbreakers

by Alex Heath on Jun 7, 2011

After the unveiling of iOS 5 by Apple at WWDC, we’re trying to process all of the information that has been announced about Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5 and iCloud.

One of the cool new features in iOS 5 is OTA (over-the-air) firmware updates delivered straight to an iDevice. Instead of having to connect your iPhone to iTunes, an update to iOS will be pushed to your iPhone automatically by Apple.

While that concept sounds great, it doesn’t sound like a good thing for jailbreakers. As it turns out, OTA iOS updates shouldn’t un-jailbreak the iPhone… Read More

by Alex Heath on Apr 18, 2011

Only moments ago we told you that i0n1c released his untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.2. The download that i0n1c posted consisted of the jailbreak code, instead of an actual tool for end users.

Right after i0n1c’s release, the Dev Team has updated the RedSn0w jailbreak tool with iOS 4.3.2 support. RedSn0w will successfully jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 and is available on both Mac OS X and Windows. Read More

Rebel SIM Provides Another iPhone Unlock Solution

by Kickstar13 on Apr 13, 2011

With the iPhone Dev Team’s inability to find a usable baseband exploit for the iPhone 4 and release a stable unlock for basebands 2.10.04, 3.10.01, and the newer 4.10.01, several alternate iPhone 4 unlock solutions have sprouted.

The first option was the Gevey SIM Interposer. Similar to a Turbo SIM, the Gevey SIM Interposer worked by adding a EEPROM chip to your SIM card. You would then call 112 from the Emergency Dialer screen. Once the call connected you would hang up then toggle Airport mode on and off. When the network connection resumed, your iPhone 4 would be unlocked.

This method would provide a “tethered” unlock, meaning that after you reboot your iPhone, you would need to repeat the unlock process. While the legality of the unlock solution was questionable at first, Dev Team member, MuscleNerd, confirmed the unlock method was illegal. Read More
