Netflix Becomes Streaming-Only Service, DVD Rentals Renamed to “Qwikster”

by Alex Heath on Sep 19, 2011

We don’t usually cover non-Apple related news here on iDB, but this recent announcement from Netflix was too big to pass up. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has publicly apologized for the way that the company handled its recent pricing restructures for streaming/DVD rentals, and has announced a total division of Netflix’s DVD and streaming divisions.

Many customers were outraged that Netflix essentially screwed subscribers of the DVD rental + streaming plan by raising prices, and Netflix has since rethought its approach to content distribution. The DVD rental service that made Netflix famous will be spinned off as “Qwikster,” while Netflix will be used for online streaming only… Read More

Stedicam Smoothee Helps Bring Out Your Inner Spielberg

by Cody on Aug 22, 2011

However, without a tripod or a mount, there’s a good chance that your videos will come out shaky. The iPhone doesn’t come with an image stabilizer, so unless you have the steady hands of a trained sniper, you’re out of luck. Enter the Stedicam Smoothee… Read More

A newly discovered patent published by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office today illustrates an iOS application that could make it easier than ever to browse movie showtimes and buy tickets on your iPhone.

Everything You Need to Know About the Mysterious iCloud

by Alex Heath on May 31, 2011

Apple issued a very unusual press release earlier today that outlined what would be announced at the World Wide Developer’s Conference next Monday, June 6th. Steve Jobs will be speaking and talking about Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5, and the newly-confirmed ‘iCloud service.

Apple’s press release was unusual because it was oddly descriptive. Even though nothing was actually said about iCloud, Apple still bothered to state that iCloud, an unreleased product, would be part of the WWDC lineup.
