By Cody Lee on May 4, 2013

There’s been no shortage of iOS 7 mockups over the past few months, as folks try to guess what Apple’s next generation mobile OS will look like. And recent reports that Jony Ive is leading a massive UI overhaul has given designers even more fodder.

But one concept in particular, by Mohamed Kerroudj, seems to be getting a little more attention than others. We showed you two videos from the series last month, and this weekend he’s uploaded a third one that involves a new Dashboard feature… Read More

New iOS 7 concept shows off quick reply, widgets and other features

By Cody Lee on Apr 5, 2013

Word has it that iOS 7 is going be receiving a system-wide makeover, courtesy of the human interface team’s new leader Jony Ive. The changes are reportedly so big that developers with ‘carry’ privileges have a filter on their devices to conceal them.

Of course, we won’t know what iOS 7 really looks like until Apple unveils it this summer. But that’s not going to stop designers from creating concepts that illustrate what they think it could look like. And we’ve got another great one for you today… Read More

webOS-inspired iOS 7 multitasking concept

By Christian Zibreg on Mar 25, 2013

Remember webOS? Say what you will about Palm, but the HP-acquired firm has pioneered what’s arguably the most efficient implementation of multitasking on a mobile device to this date (no jailbreak required, of course). For those not in the know, the webOS multitasking metaphor is a stack of cards which represents your running tasks.

Each card can be moved around, dismissed and manipulated with a flick of your finger. It’s a remarkably fun and engaging solution to efficiently interact with your apps, one which gets the job done while moving out of the way. Designer Jesse Head took that idea and applied it to the problematic iOS multitasking tray, replacing the boring grid of icons with app tiles sporting nearly full-screen live previews. It appears as useful as it’s gorgeous to look at, no? Read More

New iWatch concept takes a more traditional approach

By Cody Lee on Feb 20, 2013

As reports claiming that Apple is working on a wristwatch-like device continue to swirl, and subsequent speculation grows, concept artists have taken to their digital palettes to create their own versions of the so-called ‘iWatch.’

We’ve already seen a handful of these Apple-watch mockups—most of which feature curved glass displays and futuristic designs. But today, we’ve come across a concept that takes a far more traditional wristwatch approach… Read More

New theory makes a case for a larger iPhone

By Cody Lee on Feb 1, 2013

It’s easy to write off the recent rumors of the iPhone Plus (English translation of ‘iPhone Math’) as ‘crazy.’ After all, Apple just increased the iPhone’s screen size to 4-inches last year, why would they go to 4.9-inches now and force developers to redesign their apps again?

Well according to the latest theory to make its way around the blogosphere, they wouldn’t necessarily have to. Apple could theoretically make an iPhone with a 4.94-inch display, while keeping the iPhone 5′s resolution, and developers wouldn’t have to change a thing… Read More

New concept spices up Lockscreen with widgets and new unlock action

By Cody Lee on Jan 23, 2013

Users have been voicing their disdain for Apple’s decision to stay the course with iOS for years. The operating system, albeit the addition of the App Store and a few new features, has remained largely unchanged since its introduction.

That disdain has sparked a number of iOS-related concepts, and we’ve just come across a new mockup. In an effort to change things up a bit, it adds widgets, toggles and a new unlocking mechanism to your iPhone’s Lockscreen… Read More

Concept video shows what a 4.8-inch iPhone could look like

By Cody Lee on Jan 22, 2013

Amidst growing speculation that Apple is working on a larger handset, a Russian site has created this mockup of what it believes a bigger iPhone could look like. Created from details in the recent ‘iPhone Math’ rumor, the device has a 4.8-inch display and 12MP camera.

Contrary to other iPhone concepts, which typically travel outside the realm of possibility, this one opts to stay within the lines of Apple’s current design schemes. It looks like the iPhone 5, but its footprint has been both lengthened and widened to support the larger display… Read More

Here’s a budget iPhone concept with a 3.5-inch display

By Cody Lee on Jan 16, 2013

Apple is expected to make a few changes to its mobile lineup this year. For the iPad, it’s expected to revamp the 9.7-inch model making it thinner and lighter, with smaller bezels. On the iPhone side, it’s expected to release a new budget model.

As with all new product rumors, artists are using their skills and creativity to create mockups of what these things could possibly look like. We showed you some earlier today of the next-gen iPad, and now we have some of the rumored ‘iPhone mini.’ Read More

New Game Center concept looks sharp without the textures

By Cody Lee on Jan 15, 2013

During its big executive shuffle last fall, Apple put expert designer Jony Ive in charge of all HI (Human Interface). And since then, there has been non-stop speculation regarding what kind of changes might be made to the ever-aging iOS.

And a lot of folks are wondering what the operating system would look like without all of the skeuomorphism — the leather, etc. textures. Well designer Adrian Maciburko might be on the right track with his “Crystal Interface” concept… Read More

Gorgeous iPhone 6 concept based on new iPod nano design

By Cody Lee on Jan 5, 2013

Though Apple is believed to have sold in upwards of 50 million iPhones last quarter, there are still many critics out there that believe both the handset, and the software it runs, are getting a bit long in the tooth.

This is why we continue to see concepts for new iPhones and iOS features with refreshed designs. In fact, a new one popped up yesterday that gives the smartphone an all new look à la the 7th gen iPod nano…

Check out this cool Lockscreen concept

By Cody Lee on Dec 5, 2012

As successful as iOS has been, and continues to be, for Apple, there’s no question that it’s getting a bit long in the tooth. After all, a majority of the operating system looks just like it did when the iPhone first debuted back in 2007.

And that’s why we see so many concepts for iOS. Because there’s several ways Apple could improve its mobile platform, from smarter notifications, to broader widgets. And that’s proven once again with this new Lockscreen design… Read More

Check out this concept for a more useful iOS app switcher

By Cody Lee on Oct 9, 2012

Since Apple introduced multitasking in iOS 4, the app switcher has remained relatively the same. The jailbreak community, of course, has found dozens of uses for the pop-up app menu, but Apple, for the most part, has left it untouched.

With that in mind, you can understand why mockups that offer a new take on the app switcher create so much commotion. And such is the case with a concept that recently surfaced called “Rethinking the App Switcher for the iPhone 5…” Read More

Here are some gorgeous iPad mini mockups

By Cody Lee on Oct 4, 2012

Now that the iPhone 5 launch has come and gone, the rumor mill’s attention has turned to the iPad mini. Apple is widely expected to unveil a smaller version of its popular tablet sometime within the next month.

There’s been a lot of talk over what the slate will look like, with the most recent chatter stemming from a leaked black rear shell that reportedly belongs to the tablet. And as usual, this has inspired some mockups… Read More

Now that the iPhone 5 announcement has come and gone, the rumor mill has turned its sights back to the iPad mini. Yesterday, we heard the tablet is already in mass production. And today, this.

There’s a new set of photos floating around the web this morning of a purported iPad mini dummy unit. And the non-working model is believed to be indicative of what the tablet will look like… Read More

New mini iPad mockups show the skinner side bezels and thin design

By Christian Zibreg on Sep 3, 2012

Building upon a mid-August report calling for a smaller iPad with an iPod touch-thin profile and smaller bezels on the sides of the display, case makers have begun producing physical mockups of what they believe Apple’s rumored iPad mini might look like. Granted, case vendors have been wrong more often than right (hint: last year’s teardrop-shaped iPhone cases), but a pair of new mockups do align nicely with claimed iPad mini schematics and other tidbits circulating around the web lately… Read More

Video demo shows rumored 4-inch iPhone display in action

By Cody Lee on Aug 31, 2012

The 4-inch display rumored to debut in Apple’s next smartphone has received mixed reactions from the tech community. It has a resolution of 1136 x 640, meaning it’s the same width as before, just a bit taller. And some folks don’t like that.

Why would Apple make the display in the new iPhone taller but not wider? We’re sure it has its technical reasons, but the elongated screen, to us, seems like it would improve things like movie-watching and games. Here, watch this video… Read More

Concept shows what Apple’s 30-pin adapter could look like

By Cody Lee on Aug 21, 2012

Of all the things we think we know about Apple’s next smartphone, a smaller dock connector seems to be one of the most certain. After several years, it appears Apple is finally prepared to ditch its trusty 30-pin design in favor of a smaller solution.

And this has a lot of folks nervous. The aftermarket for 30-pin-style accessories has to be one of the largest in the business. And we’ve all got loads of iPhone chargers and docks that could become useless as of next month. Or will they? Read More

The iPad mini finally starts to take shape

By Cody Lee on Aug 15, 2012

After months of questions, Apple’s long-rumored iPad mini is finally starting to take shape. Multiple reports popped up last night detailing what the tablet may look like, and this morning, a purported headphone jack surfaced.

The three write-ups that were released last night came from three different sources of Apple intel, but they all point to the same thing: a smaller iPad, with an iPod touch-thin profile, and smaller bezels on the sides of the display… Read More

This is what holding the iPhone 5 in your hand might look like

By Christian Zibreg on Aug 7, 2012

There is no shortage of iPhone 5 mockups these days as the big launch draws nearer with each passing day. Like all the other concept renders before it, this one’s also based on leaked components, engineering samples, case molds and cases we’ve seen so far.

What’s unusual about this particular set of renders is that the images depict what holding an iPhone 5 in one’s hand may look like…
