GreenPois0n Jailbreak Delayed Because of LimeRa1n

LimeRa1n came out yesterday creating a bit of controversy in the jailbreak community. Because it revealed a different exploit from SHAtter, releasing GreenPois0n today would have given away those 2 exploits to Apple for them to patch in a near update.

Like I expected yesterday, Chronic Dev Team decided to do the right thing, and postpone the release of GreenPois0n so they have time to work on it while including the new exploit found by Geohot. Today the Chronic Dev Team officially spoke about the whole situation. This is what they had to say. No need to say they are pissed...

How to Jailbreak your iPad with LimeRa1n

Geohot just released LimeRa1n, a jailbreak for all iDevices including the iPad. This step by step guide and tutorial will show you how to use LimeRa1n to jailbreak your iPad iOS 3.2.2.

LimeRa1n is still very buggy and I don't actually recommend using it, so proceed at your own risks...

Step 1: Download LimeRa1n from our here.

Step 2: Plug your iPad in and launch LimeRa1n then click “Make it Ra1n”.

Step 3: Follow the onscreen instructions: hold the Home and Power button together.

Step 4: Release the Power button.

Step 6: LimeRa1n will have your iPad enter DFU mode and will then work its jailbreak magic.

Step 7: Your iPad is almost jailbroken and you should see the following messages.

Step 8: If you don’t see the LimeRa1n icon on your iPad , simply reboot it, then launch LimeRa1n on your iPad and select Cydia to install.

Step 9: Once Cydia is installed, you can uninstall LimeRa1n from the LimeRa1n app on your iPad.

Let us know how it goes for you.

Tutorial: How to Jailbreak your iPhone with LimeRa1n

Geohot's LimeRa1n jailbreak has been released, and even though it comes with its fair share of downsides, it does work for some people. Thanks to iDB reader Whammy who send me screenshots of LimeRa1n in action, we're now able to get a tutorial for you.

This step by step guide and tutorial will show you how to use LimeRa1n to jailbreak your iPhone iOS 4.1. LimeRa1n will jailbreak the iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4. It will also jailbreak the iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. As usual, proceed at your own risks.

This tutorial was done with a PC but LimeRa1n will also work if you have a Mac, and the steps will the exactly the same.

LimeRa1n to Mess Up GreenPois0n Release

Talking about drama... LimeRa1n was released minutes ago and the first reviews are not very good. Worst part is Geohot decided to screw the whole jailbreak community by revealing his exploit whereas the Chronic Dev had been working on their own SHAtter exploit for weeks now.

MuscleNerd just confirmed on Twitter that SHAtter will not be used this time for GreenPois0n. Instead of "giving away" 2 exploits to Apple, both iPhone Dev Teams have decided to hold on on the release of a SHAtter-based jailbreak and instead, they will use Geohot's exploit. This is good, but this could also mess up the release of GreenPois0n...

Should You Stay Away From LimeRa1n?

The news just fell that LimeRa1n has been released. If you follow the major iPhone hackers on Twitter you probably got a good feel of what to expect from LimeRa1n: a buggy and untested jailbreak.

So really, the question is: should you use LimeRa1n? Should you put your iPhone in jeopardy? Or should you wait for GreenPois0n or PwnageTool?

LimeRa1n Jailbreak Released [Download]

Geohot just released the LimeRa1n jailbreak for iOS 4.1 (LimeRa1n download here). LimeRa1n will jailbreak the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, the iPad, the iPod Touch 3G and 4G. So far it is Windows only but a Mac and Linux version are in the work.

Geohot claims he released LimeRa1n today to get the Chronic Dev Team to do the "right thing". Basically Geohot is saying "F U" to the whole jailbreak community....

LimeRa1n Jailbreak for all iDevices is for Real

Yesterday we broke the news about the potential come back of Geohot and LimeRa1n, a new jailbreak-it-all tool that will supposedly be released next Monday, a day after GreenPois0n scheduled release date. At first I was very skeptical about it and to be honest with you, I still am.

However it's been confirmed by all the big wigs that LimeRa1n is indeed for real and that it will most likely drop on Monday. Here is what we know so far...

Is Geohot Making a Come Back in the Jailbreak Scene with LimeRa1n?

The rumor just started going around on the web that infamous iPhone hacker Geohot might be making a come back with a jailbreak for iOS 4.1. The jailbreak will supposedly called LimeRa1n and would be released on 10/11/10, just a day after the GreenPois0n scheduled release date.

We've heard about LimeRa1n before, and it all turned out to be just a website with no real purpose. So what's different now? Is Geohot really coming back? He is, if you believe this image...

LimeRa1n Does Not Exist

There's been rumors about the LimeRa1n jailbreak for months now but people don't seem to understand rumors are just, well... rumors. LimeRa1n does not exist and it might never will. With Geohot now away from the jailbreak scene, there is even less chances to see LimeRa1n go live one day.

I've been asked quite a few times when LimeRa1n will be available and where you can download it. Let me make this clear for you: there is no LimeRa1n. If you find a LimeRa1n download somewhere on a website, do not download it because it's a fake!

Sure the website exists, and sure it is registered with Geohot's information but it doesn't mean anything. Forget about LimeRa1n, and start looking at the real future jailbreaks, like Spirit, which should be released soon.

I keep this blog up-to-date with the latest jailbreak info. If you don't hear about it here, it means it doesn't exist. If you just arrived on this blog "by accident", make sure to check back here often as I will write about trustworthy jailbreak info as it becomes available.

In the meantime, you can always check our jailbreak section which lists all possible jailbreaks for each iPhone model and firmware.

GeoHot Jailbreaks the iPhone 4

Geohot, the little genius behind blackra1n and blacksn0w is back at it again. In a blog post he wrote today, Geohot showed us a picture of a jailbroken iPhone 4 running Cydia.

Geohot says that he won't however release the jailbreak to the public and made it clear that the limera1n jailbreak we talked about before was nothing more than a website with no specific goal.

Got one of these in the mail today and figured I'd give it a shot.

As far as a release goes, it probably won't happen from me. limera1n is little more than a raindrop on a website; it was never mentioned by me previous to this post. pwned4life is a complete invention of some blogger in a basement somewhere. When I said pwned for life, I was referring to the original iPhone, 3G, and Touch; which of course are, by the aptly named PwnageTool.

Again, please don't ask for release dates. Every person that does makes me want to release a little bit less.

Did you read this last sentence well? I understand Geohot doesn't want to harassed with questions about a possible release date, which lets us hope he might be willing to release an iPhone 4 jailbreak one day or the other.

If I had a guess, I'd say that Geohot is working on this jailbreak right at this moment and that he will do everything he can to release a jailbreak for the iPhone 4 before the Dev Team or Comex do..

What do you think?

GeoHot: I Have So Much To Finish Before I Work On The Jailbreak

Yesterday I was telling you about LimeRa1n, a new potential jailbreak by GeoHot for all iPhones and iPod Touch. It seems that many people have gotten in touch with GeoHot by phone or even by showing up at his house (this info can be found in the whois records of his websites), asking for the jailbreak.

Apparently, and for obvious reasons, GeoHot wasn't particularly pleased, and I guess he's growing tired of people bugging him about a new jailbreak.

He made this clear today by saying on Twitter that we shouldn't be expecting a jailbreak from him anytime soon.

What do you guys think of all this? Do you think he's trying to mislead us to surprise us better soon? Or is he just not working on a jailbreak after all?

LimeRa1n: A New Jailbreak-It-All By Geohot

A few weeks after teasing us with a video showing an untethered jailbreak for all devices, an iPad jailbreak and an iPhone 4.0 jailbreak, GeoHot is now rumored to be releasing a new jailbreak called LimeRa1n in the next few days.

The rumor started when iHackinTosh got tipped about a new website called LimeRa1n.com. After checking the whois info, it appears that registrant info for both LimeRa1n and BlackRa1n is in the name and address of GeoHot.

The questions on everybody's lips is now when will GeoHot release LimeRa1n and what device will it allow to jailbreak? LimeRa1n should be available in the next few days and it should work on all devices, including the iPhone and iPod Touch 3.1.3, as well as the iPad.

A jailbreak for these devices has been around for a while now but they've never been released in order to prevent Apple to patch the exploits in a future OS update.

While, LimeRa1n has no set release date, you can still jailbreak you iPhone with BlackRa1n, PwnageTool, and RedSn0w.

Excited about LimeRa1n?
