How to make most tweaks and apps work with iOS 7 on pre-A7 devices

Are you jailbroken on iOS 7? Are the apps and tweaks installed via Cydia not showing up on your device? If you're running into this problem, you're not alone. I've received numerous questions about this problem over the last few days; so many, that I thought it would good to make a post and video on it for those that need help.

The short answer to the question is Mobile Substrate. Most of the apps and tweaks that you install from Cydia rely on Mobile Substrate, and Mobile Substrate has not been updated for the latest iOS 7 jailbreak as of yet. An update has been promised to come soon, but Saurik, its developer, is no doubt inundated with about a thousand and one different tasks related to the just released jailbreak.

Let's give Saurik the time he needs to get a properly updated working release of Mobile Substrate in our hands. In the meantime, if you're running a non-64-bit device, you can take the following steps to make your favorite apps and tweaks work.

How to use the new Apple TV beta automatic configuration

The new Apple TV beta has an awesome new feature — the ability to automatically configure settings via Bluetooth using an iOS 7 enabled device. We put the new feature through its paces just a few minutes ago, and came away quite impressed.

The new automatic setup feature will save Apple TV users a lot of time, and avoids the need to input tedious passwords and IDs using the little remote control that comes bundled with each set top box. Have a look inside, as we walk you through the entire setup process on video...

Teardown of 16GB iPod touch reveals few internal changes

Earlier this week, Apple released a new version of its fifth generation iPod touch. It features 16GB of storage space, and no rear iSight camera or lanyard hook. But other than that, and a few minor cosmetic details, it looks fairly similar to its larger siblings.

And it turns out, the new touch looks familiar on the inside as well. The repair experts over at iFixit just finished up their usual new device teardown ritual, and found very few notable internal changes...

Apple launches new 16GB iPod touch without iSight camera for $229

This is kind of interesting. Without cryptic event invites or rampant speculation, Apple just introduced a new product. No, it's not the iWatch or anything like that. It's just a new version of its fifth generation iPod touch.

As most of you know, Apple  unveiled the 5th-gen touch during its iPhone 5 event last fall. But up until now, it's only been available in 32GB and 64GB. The new one comes with 16GB of storage, and few other changes...

Fifth-gen iPod touch refurbs hit online Apple Store

Apple regularly puts up slightly used products on sale after it refurbishes them. For example, last month saw the older iPod touches and certain iPad mini refurbs arrive.

Today, the latest iPod touches popped up on the refurbished section of Apple's online store. Discounts start at $30 for the entry-level 4th gen refurbs, going all the way up to $50 for 5th gen variants.

These products are good as new, have only been used lightly, include a brand new battery and come with standard one-year AppleCare warranty. Interestingly enough, these refurbs have landed on the online Apple Store after Apple appears to have shut down its refurbished outlet on eBay...

Take better low-light panoramic pictures with LLBPano

I'm a big fan of the Panorama capture feature that was added in iOS 6. I'd like to be able to use it while holding my iPhone in landscape mode, but other than that I think Apple did a great job with it.

It doesn't always work very well in low-light conditions though. And that's where the jailbreak tweak LLBPano comes in. It enables Low-light mode on the iPhone 5 when taking panoramic photos...

‘TransparentCameraBar’ adds “more” real estate to the stock Camera app

TransparentCameraBar is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to make the UI featured in the stock Camera app transparent. The jailbreak tweak, free on Cydia's BigBoss repo, is a way to trick yourself into having "more" real estate for the view finder.

I should mention that this is more like a WinterBoard theme, than a tweak that impacts the photo's end result. If you take a photo either with, or without this tweak, the end result will be the same. It's simply a visual tweak that zooms in the camera UI to give the appearance of a bigger viewfinder.

How to enable still captures while shooting video on the iPod touch 5th generation

If you own both an iPhone 5 and an iPod touch 5th generation, you might find it strange that you can capture still photos while shooting video on the iPhone 5, but not on the iPod touch. Regardless as to why Apple made such a decision, it doesn't really matter if you're jailbroken. That's because a new jailbreak tweak recently appeared on Cydia enabling the function.

Still Capture Enabler is the tweak that allows your iPod touch 5th generation the ability to take still capture photos in the midst of a video shoot. Does it work as you would expect? Have a look at our video walkthrough inside for all of the pertinent details.

ScreenExtender forces legacy apps to stretch to the iPhone 5’s taller screen

We've seen tweaks in the past like FullForce which essentially transform iPhone apps into full screen iPad apps. Since Apple reassured developers that adding official support for the iPhone 5's screen would be a snap for most apps through Xcode, we didn't think full screen support for the left behind apps would be much of a stretch for jailbreak developers.

Turns out it wasn't a stretch. Just two days after the evasi0n jailbreak is released, a new app on Cydia called Screen Extender brings full screen support to users of the iPhone 5 or 5th generation iPod touch...
