Apple yesterday refreshed the iPod lineup alongside the new iPhone 5 (here's your keynote) and boy do these colorful iPod touches look sexy. The company also revamped the popular iPod nano, making it taller and giving it a widescreen display with multitouch user interface, Bluetooth (we envision interesting accessories for the new nano).

With fall just around the corner, Apple is expected to refresh its entire iPod lineup, per tradition. Of course, we've yet to see whether the company choose to announce new models at next week's event related to the next iPhone or during a rumored October unveiling of mini iPad or perhaps at a separate media event.

Now, a new report out this morning offers a bunch of interesting tidbits regarding the direction the venerable iPod brand may be taking in 2012. The crux of the story includes a tweaked iPod shuffle, new iPod nano, and new iPod touches and here are the details...

With invites for Apple's long-rumored September 12 media event sent out earlier today, all eyes are on the next iPhone, as subtly hinted by a "5" lurking in the shadow on the invite graphics. A separate media event is also believed to be in the works around October for a mini iPad. This leaves us with the obvious question: how does a third iPod-related presser fit between these two?

Per conventional wisdom, Apple could refresh iPods alongside the iPhone at the September 12 event. On the other hand, such a high-profile iPhone introduction - perhaps the most important product launch in Apple's history - deserves an exclusive media event of its own. Report: Apple to release 8 products by end of 2012

Sometimes delays are good. Apple is expected to release eight new products during September and October, delayed from an earlier introduction due to production problems, an analyst wrote Friday. Although most consumers know Apple will unleash the iPhone 5 in September, followed by a 7-inch iPad in October, the Cupertino, Calif. firm reportedly may also unveil a new iPod, MacBook Pro and iMac.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities said along with the iPhone 5, September will see a redesigned 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display with an entry price between $1,100 and $1,300. Next month will also see a new iPod touch...

New report calls for revamped iPod touch and iPod nano this fall

It looks like the next-gen iPhone and smaller iPad aren't the only new products Apple is planning on unveiling this fall. This according to a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo has been known to be a credible source for information regarding future Apple products, and he believes that the Cupertino company has an all-new iPod touch and iPod nano in the works...

Rumor: next iPod nano is taller, has home button, integrates with iTunes

The otherwise pretty reliable Japanese blog Macotakara reported today that Apple's iPod nano music player is undergoing a major redesign later this year, focusing on a taller appearance akin to the previous-generation model.

In addition, the rumored device is said to have gained a home button and some sort of iTunes integration. Macotakara previously leaked parts of both the new iPad and iPad 3 and reported the next iPhone would launch this fall so you shouldn't dismiss this new piece of information as an unreliable rumor from a shady source...

Ever since Steve Jobs joked about iPod nano wrist straps during the September 2010 presser ("one of our board of director members is gonna clip it on to an armband as a watch"), there has been no shortage of futuristic iWatch concepts, ranging from ADR Studio's James Bond-like thing to Italian designer Federico Ciccarese's Star Trek-like wearable device with curved glass we told you about last week.
