Jailbreakers beware of iOS 5.1

With today's announcement, we're pretty sure that iOS 5.1 will be right around the corner, with a probable release of the Gold Master sometimes this week.

A few people on Twitter asked me to put up a friendly reminder that jailbreakers should make sure not to update to iOS 5.1 when it comes out, especially iPhone 4S owners...

iOS 5.1 Gold Master passes quality assurance phase

It's almost a given at this point that we'll see iOS 5.1 in the near future. Apple's already seeded multiple 5.1 betas to developers, and the company has a tendency to release iOS updates alongside new products — which we should see tomorrow.

But information about the software has been fairly scarce lately. It's been nearly two months since the last beta was released, and just as long since we've heard of any new developments. So what's the deal? Apparently, Apple has been testing the heck out of it...

How to add rich text capability to your Notes app now

With the rumors and leaks lending strong indications that we'll see some sort of rich text functionality for Notes in iOS 5.1, developer Ryan Petrich decided he doesn't like waiting.

As a result, Rich Text For Mail — a tweak dedicated to adding rich text support to Email — has been updated to support Notes as well.

The good news is that you no longer have to wait for iOS 5.1 to receive a feature that may or may not be included with the final build...

iOS 5.1 to launch with new Notes app?

iOS 5.1 is rumored to launch around the same time as the iPad 3, with an abundance of new features. The new features include Japanese language support for Siri, a new camera slide button on the home screen, and the possibility of Siri support on the iPad 3. iOS 5.1 has been in beta for quite awhile, but hasn't hinted at any of these features.

iPhone Hellas has reportedly obtained a screenshot of a new robust note taking app that will be launched on iOS 5.1.

i0n1c gives advice to prepare for iOS 5.1 jailbreak, or does he really?

iOS hacker i0n1c came out of a long period of silence to tweet about a future iOS 5.1 jailbreak and a piece of advice to get ready for it.

According to a rather sarcastic tweet sent a few hours ago, i0n1c recommends everybody downloads KakaoTalk Messenger, a free application in the App Store that apparently hides some mysterious features, namely an exploitable vulnerability that can be used for an iOS 5.1 jailbreak...

Rumor: Pre-GM version of iOS 5.1 leaked

Apple has been seeding beta versions of iOS 5.1 to developers for almost three months now. And the most recent version, beta 3, was released more than a month ago. Apple is expected to unveil the new software alongside its iPad 3 next month.

That being said, the folks over at BlogdoiPhone are claiming that they've managed to acquire a Pre-GM version of iOS 5.1. And among the new features they've discovered, is a new Lock Screen camera icon (pictured above)...

Rumor: Public Release of iOS 5.1 to Drop March 9th

It's been more than a month since Apple seeded iOS 5.1 beta 3 to developers, and more than three months since it released the first one. So we've started wondering, when will we see the next version of iOS?

Judging by Apple's history, the company is more than likely waiting for its upcoming iPad event to unveil iOS 5.1. And according to the folks over at YourDailyMac, we could see both drop on March 9th...

Are you enjoying your newly jailbroken devices as much as we are? If so, you may want to make sure that you have saved your iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs. If not, you could risk losing the ability to jailbreak in the future.

iOS Battery Update: iOS 5.1 Beta 3

A week after the release of iOS 5.1 beta 3 the biggest question that seems to be getting asked repeatedly is one that we have become accustomed to ever since the release of iOS 5, back in October. Yes, you guessed it – is the battery life any better yet?

We have been talking about battery life in iOS quite a bit since the issue first reared its ugly head, and we've discovered that it isn't just an iPhone 4S issue, but rather something Apple changed in iOS 5. Since then the company has issued a full update in iOS 5.0.1 and a series of iOS 5.1 betas, but has the latest improved things any? Can we expect to get back to iOS 4.x-levels of battery life?

Well, no, not really...

Corona Exploit Reportedly Patched in iOS 5.1

After months of waiting, an untethered jailbreak compatible with iOS 5 was finally released in late December. Although it doesn't work with A5 devices, the exploit is effective on a number of products, including both the iPad and the iPhone 4.

But it doesn't look like it will be that way for much longer. Multiple jailbreak developers are reporting that Apple has patched the Corona exploit, used in the untethered jailbreak, in the latest version of its mobile operating system iOS 5.1...
