Confirming earlier reports, prepaid iPhones are now available at Virgin Mobile, a Sprint-owned carrier in the United States. The 16GB/32GB iPhone 4S will set you back $649 ($549 for the 8GB iPhone 4) with one of Virgin’s no-commit plans priced between $30-$50.

It’s funny to hear so many reports about how much slower than Safari Google Chrome will inevitably be, due to its lack of access to the Nitro Javascript engine. While that may be true from a technical standpoint, and no doubt data heads will be able to show me numbers that back that fact up, in real world usage, such stats tend to be tossed to the sidelines.

We reported three weeks ago that Virgin Mobile will become yet another U.S. carrier to sell unlocked iPhones with month-to-month prepaid plans. Last week a tethered jailbreak was released for iOS 6 running on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation. While it was great to have a jailbreak so soon, the jailbreak didn’t include any GUI tools like Cydia, only SSH and afc2 support were added.
Fortunately, now that we have SSH access, we can transfer and install pretty much anything on our jailbroken iOS 6 devices, including Cydia.

Confirming recent rumors, Virgin Mobile USA, a Sprint Nextel subsidiary, today announced that it will be offering Apple’s iPhone on a prepaid basis beginning June 29. The iPhone 4 and 4S will be available with a month-to-month unlimited data option costing $30 a month, with data throttling once you get past your monthly allowance of 2.5 gigabytes.

As 9to5 Mac first reported, Apple has released an updated version of iOS 5.1.1 for the iPhone 4 GSM. The build for this latest version is 9B208, while the previous version was 9B206. Interestingly enough, the release is only for the iPhone 4 GSM, and it’s likely a small bug fix given its slight build number difference.
Either way, we recommend that you hold off on updating until given the all clear is sounded with regard to jailbreak compatibility. Make sure your save your iOS 5.1.1 SHSH blobs so that you can take advantage of a future downgrade if need be. Read More
If you currently have an A4 device or below that’s jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 using a tethered jailbreak, you can use the new Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether package to convert your tethered jailbreak into an untethered jailbreak.
This is great, because you don’t have to perform any sort of restore on your already jailbroken device just to change it into a jailbreak of the untethered variety. Even better is the fact that you can download Rocky Racoon from Cydia, and install it just like you would any other package to accomplish an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1.

I highly debated whether or not to post this, but after some going back and forth, I decided that it was for the best to shed some light on this subject in an attempt to cut down on confusion.
Apparently there is a new jailbreak tool “available” (you’ll see why I used quotes in a second) that allows you to perform an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 for A4 devices.
The tool is called VulnDisco Mobile 1.7, and it is a commercial product that takes advantage of the existing RedSn0w 5.1.1 tethered jailbreak to install a custom bundle for an untethered jailbreak.
While I’ve yet to find any details on how much the jailbreak will cost in total, in all likelihood it will set you back much more than the cost of an iOS device itself. That’s because this jailbreak is not a standalone product, but it’s an add-on to a larger product created by a company named Immunity.
