Yesterday, we told you that the Espoo, Finland-based game maker acquired all rights to Casey’s Contraptions.

As you know, Casey’s Contraptions is a charming and addictive puzzle game by Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut. That game’s main character was briefly shown at the end of a video accompanying the one billionth Angry Birds download. So, what’s Amazing Alex going to be about? Here’s what we know so far… Read More

Instapaper updated with features and gorgeous iBooks-style animations

by Christian Zibreg on May 10, 2012

I’m a big fan of Instapaper. I’ve come to rely on both the bookmarklet and the iOS app for my daily blogging and research, as well as general reading needs.

I’ve been also using Instapaper to catch up on my previously saved stories while on the go, using my iPhone or iPad.

Today, Marco Arment pushed another update that brought a couple new features in addition to a cosmetic change I’ve been clamoring for: iBooks-style animations.

I know that some other apps replicate the wonderful page curl seen in Apple’s iBooks app, namely Google’s Play Books. But whereas other programs fall short because of the sluggishness and jaginess exhibited when flipping through the pages, Instapaper 4.2 delivers.

I’ve been comparing page curls in iBooks and Instapaper for like an hour now and walked away convinced that Instapaper pretty much beats iBooks with its gorgeous, smooth and pixel-perfect page turns… Read More

TechCrunch points to an interesting new Kickstarter project called Etcher, an iPad case that makes your tablet look like an Etch-A-Sketch. But this accessory does more than just drum up nostalgia — it actually works.

That’s right, unlike other Etch-A-Sketch cases, this one has real knobs that let you draw real lines on your iPad’s screen. So on top of keeping your tablet protected, you have a way to create impromptu sketches… Read More

Rumor: Apple to unveil $200 7-inch iPad this fall

by Cody on May 10, 2012

iMore is out with a new report today, claiming that it has learned from a reliable source that Apple will be going forward with plans to release a 7-inch iPad this fall. The tablet will launch in October, alongside the new iPhone, and cost less than $250.

While it’s easy to chalk this up to just another “iPad mini” rumor — we know, there’s been a lot of them — it’s worth noting that iMore has been fairly accurate in the past with Apple info, most recently nailing the new iPad event date last March… Read More

by Jeff Benjamin on May 10, 2012

Clock Widget is a simple Android inspired widget that’s great to use if you like to hide the clock in your status bar like yours truly.

by Christian Zibreg on May 10, 2012

Eagle-eyed readers spotted something interesting at the end of yesterday’s clip accompanying the one billionth Angry Birds download milestone: a character that looks a lot like that in Casey’s Contraptions, a charming and addictive puzzle game by Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut.

Confirming speculation, Rovio’s vice president of franchise development Ville Heijari confirmed his company acquired all rights to Casey’s Contraptions. The iPad version has already been pulled from the App Store as the Angry Birds maker works on a new version that will hit iOS, Android and other platforms this summer… Read More

by Christian Zibreg on May 10, 2012

Confirming the latest rumor asserting a possible settlement, Apple has reportedly offered Proview just $16 million for the rights to use the iPad moniker in China.

That’s a far cry from a whopping $400 million the cash-strapped display maker is allegedly seeking in order to settle the trademark dispute and appease its creditors.

At the same time, Apple too is in a hurry to settle this dispute as the company looks to launch its new iPad in the all too important 1.33 billion people market, without risking a country-wide sales ban… Read More
