Siri Isn’t Technically Limited to the iPhone 4S

By Cody Lee on Oct 14, 2011

Why Apple has limited its new Siri personal assistant feature to the iPhone 4S is anyone’s guess. At first it was believed that a lot of the backend of Siri took place on the handset, so it needed the A5’s extra power. But that didn’t prove to be the case.

It was also thought that the service required 1GB of RAM. But it was later revealed that Apple’s new smartphone only contains 512MB, so that can’t be it, either. So then why in the world is Siri limited to the iPhone 4S? Well, maybe it’s not… Read More

This morning, the Dev Team’s MuscleNerd sent out a tweet saying that porting Siri to the iPhone 4 or any other iDevice would most likely require piracy, something that the Dev Team has always refused to do… Read More

iOS 5 Beta 6 Will Expire on September 29

By Sébastien Page on Aug 20, 2011

Apple released iOS 5 Beta 6 yesterday to developers. What we hadn’t confirmed, until now, is the expiration date of the latest beta release.

As you may know, all iOS beta versions that Apple releases have an expiration date, and past this expiration date, devices that haven’t been updated will be disabled, that is, at least until they’re updated to a newer version… Read More

Apple released iOS 5 Beta 3 yesterday, and it was quickly confirmed that you could jailbreak Apple’s newest beta build with last month’s version of the popular jailbreaking tool, RedSn0w. iFaith v1.1 Released

By Guest Author on Jul 2, 2011

iFaith, the SHSH dumping tool, has received an update and is now available to the public for download.

Up until iFaith came out, if you wanted to restore your device to a previous iOS firmware, the only way to do it was to save the current firmware’s SHSH blob using tools such as @notcom‘s TinyUmbrella or Cydia’s ‘Make my life easier‘ function which automatically saved your SHSH blobs to Cydia’s server.

If you didn’t save the SHSH blob and Apple stopped signing for that iOS then you would not be able to downgrade, as iTunes would stop the process from being completed during the ‘Verifying firmware’ phase of the restore.

The unique thing with iFaith is that, regardless of what firmware your device is running, iFaith will extract the SHSH blob directly from the device. That way, you’ll to be able to restore back to that same firmware in the future, even if Apple is not signing that firmware… Read More

Sn0wbreeze Gets iOS 5.0 Beta 2 Treatment, 3GS Still Untethered

By Cody Lee on Jun 26, 2011

Apple seeded the 2nd beta of their iOS 5 software to developers last Friday. As typical of any new iOS firmware release, we have been asked if the new update can be jailbroken and unlocked.

Though we’ve heard the disappointing news that the new firmware has patched the Gevey SIM unlock, the software is certainly still jailbreakable. RedSn0w was the first to announce compatibility with the new beta, but Sn0wBreeze wasn’t far behind… Read More

iH8sn0w Announces iFaith SHSH Blob Dumping Tool

By Oliver Haslam on Jun 2, 2011

SHSH blobs, despite the slightly comical name are extremely important in the world of iOS jailbreaking. See, the problem with jailbreaking iOS devices is every once in a while you might need to revert to an old firmware version, something Apple isn’t too keen on.

When attempting to flash an iDevice with a firmware other than the most current one, iTunes will contact Apple’s servers for authentication and because your version of iOS is older than the one currently installed, the server refuses.

Luckily this can be gotten around as with so many things in tech – and this is where SHSH blobs come in, along with a new tool by hacking friend iH8sn0w called iFaithRead More

It appears that jailbreak developer iH8sn0w has been causing some commotion in the Twitter world over the weekend. The 16 year-old iPhone hacker has made quite a name for himself in the community over the past few years, and it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon.

Everything You Need to Know About iOS 4.3.3 Jailbreak

By Cody Lee on May 7, 2011

Apple released iOS 4.3.3 (4.2.8 for Verizon iPhones) last Wednesday, less than three weeks after the previous software update. The new firmware included a fix for the location tracking file that Apple has gotten into so much water over (is that considered Cider?).

Chances are, most of you didn’t consider 4.3.3 big enough to update from 4.3.2. But with the Verizon iPad 2 problem fixed and the infamous tracking bug patched, we may not see another update until iOS 5 is released. If that’s the case, then this will likely be the last jailbreak for several months, so why not update? Read More
