By Sebastien Page on Oct 10, 2010

A quick note to let everyone know that so far, you can only download LimeRa1n for Windows. There is no Mac LimeRa1n download yet. According to Geohot himself, a Mac and Linux version of LimeRa1n should be available soon.

Update: There is now a Mac and Linux version of LimeRa1n.

There are many websites offering fake LimeRa1n download links. My recommendation is to be very careful with those. You can always download LimeRa1n from our iPhone downloads section, or directly from the LimeRa1n website.

I will update this post as soon as we have LimeRa1n download links for Mac and Linux.

If you’re on a PC, here is a guide on how to jailbreak your iPhone iOS 4.1 with LimeRa1n. Read More

App For Songwriters Comes to the iPhone

By Guest Author on Sep 20, 2010

The days of being a songwriter have undoubtedly changed over time. The times of hunching over a ripped up piece of notebook paper while you ferociously scribble out and add material have come and gone for the most part.

Nowadays many writers I know use their computers for generating new material. A recent app in the App Store entitled Songwriter’s Pad 1.0.1 brings music composition to the middle of your iPhone. With an already successful iPad entry, the app written by Dante Moore offers artists an opportunity to create material with a variety of tools. Read More

Napster App Comes to the iPhone

By Guest Author on Sep 20, 2010

I remember it to be about 10 years ago when a few buddies and I used to be huddled over a PC with Napster open. Wasting hours for low quality pirated music never felt so cool.

9 to 5 Mac reports that  you can recapture some of the nostalgic vibe above by adding the Napster application to your iPhone. Once held as the top source for downloading music, Napster has watched its importance come and go since 1999 and is now gracing the virtual shelves of the App StoreRead More

Number of iPhone Apps Downloads to Surpass iTunes Songs Downloads

By Sebastien Page on Sep 8, 2010

This is some interesting data shared by Asymco that shows we are downloading apps much faster than we download music on iTunes. As a point of comparison, it took the App Store 2.2 years to be where iTunes was after 5 years. In other words, the App Store is hugely gigantic.

More interesting is that Asymco foresees App Store downloads will pass iTunes downloads by the end of the year. So why is the App Store so popular? Read More

AppShopper App Helps You Find Deals on iPhone Applications

By Guest Author on Sep 7, 2010

The iPhone App Store has had over 300,000 entries accepted in its short lived history while almost 250,000 are currently available for download. I often find myself asking how I can find an obscure application or when a popular entry might go on sale. Enter AppShopper.

Gizmodo recently reported that the popular website now has a native app for the iPhone that will track when apps go on sale and announce the arrival of recently added entries. Certainly this beats Apple’s featured apps tab and the best part about it is, you guessed it, it’s free… Read More

Nike Makes Its iPhone App More Accessible

By Guest Author on Sep 7, 2010

Running is a lot of work. That’s why the previous version of the Nike+ iPod was a bit of a hassle since you had to have special equipment just to participate in the experience. Apparently Nike agreed.

Now in the App Store is an app called Nike+ GPS which is a stand alone version of the aforementioned application. The $2 selection which you can download here utilizes the iPhone’s accelerometer and GPS capabilities (must be running iOS 3.1 or higher), which ditches the need for any additional adapters that it once required…   Read More

Why is Web Browsing Declining on the iPhone?

By Guest Author on Sep 6, 2010

When the iPhone was introduced back in 2007 Steve Jobs made it known that he thought the phone’s best feature was the ability to browse the internet in its entirety. To his credit it was the first device to even come close. As Jobs’ idol, Bob Dylan sang, “The times they are a changing”.

The Bango Blog offers some insight regarding their newest web browsing statistics that show a decline in web traffic as it relates to content viewed from the iPhone. Should the decline be attributed to the influx in platforms that offer the same style of browsing? Some would argue that systems like Android offer a more comprehensive experience strictly due to their support of Flash… Read More

Will You Upgrade Your iPhone to iOS 4.1?

By Guest Author on Sep 6, 2010

This week Apple will release the iOS version 4.1 for the iPhone. If our calculations are correct the newest version of the mobile operating system will be hitting iTunes on Wednesday, September 8th.

The last couple of updates from Apple haven’t been anything to write home about. Version 4.0.1 simply addressed the algorithm while the antenna issue was flooding the news wire. After that, version 4.0.2 basically just patched up a security issue that Apple left exposed. As far as actual tangible features both refreshes were pretty dull at best… Read More

MiTube: A Jailbreak App in the App Store

By Sebastien Page on Aug 4, 2010

MiTube is a new app in the App Store that allows you to stream and most importantly download videos from YouTube to your iPhone. Some of you will probably remember a similar app in Cydia that was called MxTube, which was actually developed by the same guy, Max Weisel.

Something tells me MiTube won’t stay in the App Store for too long, so get on it while you. Oh, and it’s free. No more excuse for not downloading MiTube.

MMS for iPhone Now Available

By Sebastien Page on Sep 25, 2009

You’ve been waiting for it. We’ve been bitching about it, but it’s here! MMS for iPhone is available for download from iTunes as a “carrier update”.

Open iTunes, plug your iPhone in and you should have a message saying that a carrier update is available for download.

As I wrote yesterday, I don’t think this carrier update can mess up your jailbreak but it might kill your tethering hack if you activated it.

Now the big question is whether AT&T’s network will be strong enough to handle all these MMS that are going to be sent.

Personally, I couldn’t care less about MMS but I know many of you are anxious to send and receive picture messages.

Are you excited?

Update: It seems you have to be on OS 3.1 to be able to download the carrier update. Yet another sneaky move from Apple. Oh well…

Download Torrents on Your iPhone with Torrentula

By Sebastien Page on Aug 19, 2009

Ever wanted to download torrents on your iPhone? It is now possible thanks to an application called Torrentula.

Torrentula is available for download from Cydia, which means you will have to jailbreak your iPhone to use it… The app also requires the latest version of Jiggy Runtime to be installed on your iPhone. Check this out for more information about Jiggy Runtime. After doing that, add the following source in Cydia: http://itouch.rockt.es/repo.xml

Sunburst, the developer of Torrentula explains what to do next:

Download .torrent files to your device with the HistoryDL.app (recommended) or the Safari Download Plugin into the mobile (or root)/Downloads folder. The program will scan your mobile (or root)/Downloads folder for new torrent files, and will import any valid torrent files regardless of their filename or extension. When a torrent has finished downloading from peers it will be automatically moved to mobile (or root)/Media/Downloads when selected. Note: Torrents continue downloading even when program is closed. A device restart can often activate/fix stubborn torrents.

Torrentula will then let you browse torrents site such as MiniNova and will let you download BitTorrents straight to your iPhone.

I haven’t tried this app myself but iPhone Download Blog reader Jenster sent me this tip saying it’s working great. Try it out and let us know what you think by leaving a comment.
