How to Help the Chronic Dev Team Release the iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak

Over the weekend we told you about the latest software release from the Chronic Dev Team, the Chronic-Dev Crash Reporter. The app is designed to stop iOS devices from automatically sending crash reports to Apple by re-routing them to a custom server.

The release comes in the wake of Apple recently patching a number of known exploits, which the Chronic Dev Team intended to use in an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak. Hackers have decided to fight fire with fire, and here's how you can help...

Chronic Dev Team Releases New Crash Recovery Software, Gives iOS 5 Jailbreak Update

We are now going on two months (five, if you were using developer betas) since Apple released iOS 5, and we still don't have a viable jailbreak. There have been tethered and semi-tethered solutions available, but not an untethered jailbreak tool.

The worst part is that we haven't known how close hackers have been to releasing anything, until tonight. The Chronic Dev Team has finally broken its silence regarding the untethered iOS 5 jailbreak, and has revealed a new plan for finding future iOS exploits...

iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak Possible Thanks to Discovery of New Bug

Dev Team Working on Merging PwnageTool and RedSn0w Features Together

Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd made an interesting comment on Twitter today about the future of PwnageTool and RedSn0w for iOS 5.

Both jailbreak tools will be essentially merged together for an upcoming iOS 5 jailbreak. PwnageTool has been a Mac-only jailbreak tool for years that allows iPhone users to preserve their basebands. A future version of RedSn0w will let users create custom IPSW files to preserve the iPhone's baseband as well...

i0n1c Confirms iOS 5 Untether is “Covered”

With iOS 5 scheduled to drop this Wednesday, the question in the back of everyone's mind (at least here at iDB anyways) is when will it be fully jailbroken? A tethered jailbreak is already available for the new software, but it's just not the same.

A tethered jailbreak is inconvenient, it means you have to reconnect your iDevice to your computer after every restart. Luckily it sounds like we won't have to wait long for an untether to hit web, as i0n1c has confirmed it's being handled...

Chronic-Dev Team “Actively Working” on the iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak

As we near the public launch of iOS 5, many jailbreakers are wondering what the future holds. It was originally thought that Apple was out to kill jailbreaking in iOS 5, and many became even more worried when famed hacker Comex announced that he had been hired by Apple. Was the end drawing near?

We can all rest assured that jailbreaking is alive and well. And after months of there being no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 or the last two releases of iOS 4, the Chronic-Dev Team has said that it is "actively working" on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5...

It was only last week that the Chronic Dev Team posted an update on their blog asking us to not bug them about the iPad 2 jailbreak, and here you have Veeence throwing a little more oil on the fire...
