pod2g has handed over the keys to his iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for A4 devices (which includes the iPhone 4) to the Chronic Dev Team. In doing so, he hopes to focus primarily on the A5 jailbreak, which covers the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

It looks like the caching issues that jailbreak guru pod2g was facing are now a thing of the past.
Just a while ago, the iPhone hacker updated his blog acknowledging that he had solved the the A5 chip cache issue, which means we are even closer to the reality of an untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak.

The entire jailbreak community has its eyes on pod2g right now. The Chronic Dev Team-affiliated iOS hacker has shown a lot of progress over the last few weeks in his efforts to create an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak.

Front man for the Chronic Dev Team, Joshua Hill (also known as p0sixninja), has announced a landmark number of crash reports that have already been submitted to his team. The Chronic Dev Team recently released an app that collects iOS crash reports in iTunes and sends them to the team’s private servers to help find exploits for the future iOS 5 untethered jailbreak.
After only one week, the team of hackers has collected over 10 million crash reports from jailbreak supporters worldwide. Joshua and the rest of the Chronic Dev Team are working to parse the crash report data to help create a stable untethered jailbreak for Apple’s iOS 5. Read More

We are now going on two months (five, if you were using developer betas) since Apple released iOS 5, and we still don’t have a viable jailbreak. There have been tethered and semi-tethered solutions available, but not an untethered jailbreak tool.

Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd made an interesting comment on Twitter today about the future of PwnageTool and RedSn0w for iOS 5.
Both jailbreak tools will be essentially merged together for an upcoming iOS 5 jailbreak. PwnageTool has been a Mac-only jailbreak tool for years that allows iPhone users to preserve their basebands.
