Snappy5: The Fastest Way to Snap Pictures With Your iPhone

by Jeff Benjamin on Jan 10, 2012

I know I’m not alone in my predicament, but I can’t count the number of times I’ve missed a good photo opportunity because I was either too slow on the draw, or iOS itself was too slow to load the camera UI.

Snappy5 is a tweak that aims to minimize, if not eliminate that annoying issue. It works by using Activator to quickly pull up the Camera app and automatically snapping a photo or filming a video.

If you find yourself missing a lot of great memories, then you definitely want to check this out… Read More

Rumor: Hands-On With iPad 3 Shell Reveals Familiar Design, Improved Cameras

by Alex Heath on Jan 10, 2012

As he has done in the past, Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge has claimed to have seen the rear shell of the next-generation iPad. He also revealed a prototype shell of the iPad 2 during CES last year and correctly predicted the tablet’s basic upgrades and features.

This time, Horwitz has followed up on his previous iPad 3 report with the claim that he has touched the rear shell of Apple’s next-generation iPad. He notes that the exterior design of the device hasn’t changed, but he does expect better cameras and a higher-quality screen. Read More

Mail More Photos: Attach More Than 5 Photos to an Email

by Jeff Benjamin on Jan 7, 2012

iOS is a bit on the limited side when it comes to sending a multitude of emails from the Camera Roll. Apple has limited users to just 5 photo attachments if users want to use the built in email sharing option.

Fortunately, jailbreaking exists to get rid of such limitations. Check inside for a video walkthrough of Mail More Photos, a tweak that allows one to send a seemingly infinite amount of photos via email… Read More

iOS 5 Glitch Exposes Photo Albums on Locked iPhones

by Guest Author on Jan 4, 2012

Canadian tech consultant Ade Barkah has uncovered a security bug in iOS 5 that allows for someone to bypass an iPhone’s lock screen and view the device’s photo albums, even without knowing the passcode.

In iOS 5, there is a convenient button on the lock screen, which appears by double-tapping the home button, that allows for you to launch the camera application. Normally, Apple has a restriction that prohibits you from viewing any images on your iPhone’s camera roll while the device is locked, however, during his travels from Canada to Argentina, Barkah discovered that Apple’s restriction is merely based on the iPhone’s system time… Read More

Patent Shows Planned Facial Recognition in Upcoming iPad

by Oliver Haslam on Dec 29, 2011

One of the most popular negatives that people like to throw at the iPad is its single-user experience. There is basically no ability for a family to easily use an iPad. No user accounts, and thus no account switching.

Perhaps Apple planned for each member of a family to own their own iPad, but as we all know, that just isn’t feasible with a $500 tablet, especially in these poor economic times.

The latest patent application to find its way out of the people at PatentlyApple shows that Apple is well aware of the way people want to use their iPads, and that we want to be able to hand the device to another person and have them be able to use it as their own. No sharing apps, no logging in and out of things constantly. This being Apple, they want to do it a little differently. Read More

Create Picture Storyboards With Diptic for iPhone and iPad

by Oliver Haslam on Dec 28, 2011

If you’re an Instagram fan then you’ve probably seen the recent influx of images that are made up of multiple photographs, kind of like a storyboard or collage. They are a great way of showing off a group of photos that are of the same object or of the same theme.

Our favorite iPhone and iPad app for creating such an affect is Diptic, a $0.99 app which comes as two apps for your iPhone and iPad rolled into one.

Where Diptic excels is in its collection of options. Users are not simply left to add photos to a predefined template, but rather have complete control over every aspect of the final product. You don’t need to be a creative genius to get great results, either… Read More

Skitch Image Editor Now Available on the iPad

by Alex Heath on Dec 22, 2011

I used Skitch on my Mac about a year ago when it was really popular, but the image editing tool fell off my radar after I started using more robust apps, like Pixelmator. A lot has happened to Skitch in the past year. The app has actually been bought by Evernote.

Skitch has entered the iOS world today with an official iPad app. The tool lets you edit and annotate images on the iPad with your finger. Read More

Flashy Status: Be Alerted When Your iPhone’s Flash is On

by Jeff Benjamin on Dec 15, 2011

The concept of Flashy Status is a good one: make it more evident when your flash might fire when snapping a photo with your iPhone’s camera.

It accomplishes this by illuminating the ‘On’ button on the Camera app’s flash settings with green. You can either make it a solid green, or a more visible flashing green.

And while I suppose this is nice to have, there’s one key feature missing from this tweak that keeps it from being really useful… Read More

Video Stream Lets You Sync Videos From Your iOS Device With iCloud

by Oliver Haslam on Dec 10, 2011

Apple recently introduced Photo Stream, the iCloud service that keeps your photos in sync across your iOS devices and desktop computers.

The problem with Photo Stream is the distinct lack of video support. Apple and the carriers don’t want to be sending huge video files over their networks. With the iPhone 4S now recording 1080p video, that’s a lot of data going over 3G.

Thankfully, Apple has given developers an API so they can get their teeth into iCloud’s storage servers, and that is where one developer saw its chance. Video Stream offers a way to keep video files in sync across multiple devices, just as Photo Stream does for images…
