Developer Rovio has had enormous success with Angry Birds. The series debuted on the iPhone back in December 2009 and has since remained one of the most sold games in the App Store.
From today’s earnings release for the full calendar year of 2011, the Espoo, Finland-headquartered company hit an astounding 648 million Angry Birds downloads by the end of 2011.
Total number of active monthly users across all platforms reached 200 million, helping Rovio book a cool $106.3 million in revenue. The number of active users grew considerably from the 40 million people who were regularly playing Angry Birds games as of March 2011.
Most importantly, first-quarter earnings before tax stood at $67.6 million, or 64 percent of total revenue in 2011, making Rovio one of the most-profitable game developers out there… Read More

Angry Birds Space, the latest installment in the popular birds vs. pigs videogame series, has amassed more than 50 million downloads on all platforms in the 35 days since its March 22 launch, Rovio announced on Twitter this morning.
This makes Angry Birds Space “one of the fastest growing games ever” and by far the fastest-growing game on mobile, the company bragged.
Previously, the game zoomed past the ten million mark in less than three days. Rovio largely owes such a successful launch to Angry Birds’s seemingly unstoppable popularity, still rising across the globe. Another crucial factor: Apple’s iOS platform which now powers more than 365 million devices, as this is where the vast majority of paid downloads occur… Read More

Rovio Mobile, the brains behind the crazy addictive Angry Birds series, surely knows how to milk a franchise. In less than three days of its launch last Thursday morning, Angry Birds Space has been downloaded ten million times, the company tweeted. You’d expect Apple to put these kind of numbers rather than a game developer.
However, note that Angry Birds Space simultaneously launched on the iOS, Android, Mac and PC app stores and we’re talking about a gaming series that has become a cultural phenomenon, spawning plush toys, costumes (even bra), animated TV series and allegedly coming to Hollywood as well. Read More

We told you recently that those Angry Birds were going to make their way into space, and today Rovio released the new game for iOS gamers.
Angry Birds Space is pretty much what you would expect: Angry birds trying to finish those pesky pigs off, but with a distinctly starry flavour.
Available for both the iPhone/iPod touch and the iPad, Angry Birds Space takes to the skies, with planets and their own gravitational pull adding something very different to the tried and tested Angry Birds formula that has already made Rovio’s games extremely popular across a range of devices. From what we’ve seen, this space-flavored version will be just as popular… Read More

App piracy is something which is a real problem for many iOS developers, especially the smaller, independent ones. Things don’t get much easier for the big guys, either.
Rovio, the people behind Angry Birds, also suffer from a spot of piracy, and not just of the app variety, either. All sorts of merchandise is being made and sold in Asia, with Rovio getting nothing by way of monetary compensation. But that doesn’t seem to bother Rovio’s CEO Mikael Hed.
In fact, he seems to be surprisingly happy about it… Read More

Some things just blow our minds here at iDB. One such thing is the lengths some people will go to in order to analyze something that most of us find mildly interesting at best, and the epitome of that is the work WIRED‘s Rhett Allain has been doing on the Angry Birds games.
Now, don’t take that as a sign that we don’t think his research is indeed super awesome, because it is. It’s just that we’re not convinced we find it as awesome as Rhett does. Or, perhaps, we’re just not clever enough to get our collective heads around it!
The series of posts that Rhett Allain has been working on delve into the inner workings of Angry Birds, and more importantly, into how we can better understand the game with the aim of flinging birds from catapults. Told you it was awesome… Read More

We’ve already shown you the iPhone 4S that got sent into space, and now we’re back with the news that two iPads will visit the International Space Station next month.

Gaming on iOS devices is taking off these days, with titles such as Angry Birds and Infinity Blade proving as big sellers for their respective development houses.
