By Joe Rossignol on Jun 12, 2014

Flappy Bird might have taken the App Store by storm a few months ago, but I can think of a few smash-hit game franchises that launched much before that. The first one that pops into my mind is Infinity Blade, which I think opened many people’s eyes to just how powerful gaming can be on the iPad. Then there is Angry Birds, which has been a remarkably successful series for Finnish game maker Rovio.

Angry Birds Epic wasn’t the only impressive new game to hit the App Store this morning, so read ahead for a look at 12 other apps that made the list…  Read More

By Cody Lee on Mar 12, 2014

Over the weekend, Rovio posted a teaser trailer for an unknown, upcoming Angry Birds title. The clip was short, and offered up few details about the game outside of showing a bird wearing knight’s armor and announcing countries that would participate in the soft launch.

Well today, the studio revealed that the game is going to be called Angry Birds Epic and it’s not going to be the typical bird-flinger. In fact, far from it. The new title will actually fall into the ‘adventure role-playing’ genre, with a turn-based combat system and extensive crafting…

Rovio denies wrongdoing in NSA’s snooping of Angry Birds players, but…

By Christian Zibreg on Jan 28, 2014

A report yesterday by The New York Times and other news organizations has provided yet another unsettling glimpse into the NSA’s wide-ranging surveillance practices.

The speculation, based on information from documents provided by the NSA leaker Edward Snowden, suggests that the NSA and its British counterpart GCHQ have been collecting private user data from mobile apps, in real time, as it travels across the Internet.

Profile data being collected from popular games such as Rovio’s Angry Birds typically includes age, location and gender, the allegations go. And with games that show ads, the agencies are also able to intercept users’ surprisingly detailed advertising profiles, mining it for new information… Read More
