Compared to last year, the average smartphone consumer in the U.S. now has 41 apps on their home screen, a 28 percent increase from 32 apps in last year, according to a Nielsen study released this morning.

How to Search YouTube From Notification Center

by Jeff Benjamin on Jan 10, 2012

After the deluge of Notification Center tweaks that were made available right after iOS 5′s release, the amount of tweaks targeting iOS 5′s crown jewel has stymied off significantly.

That’s not to say that there are no Notification Center tweaks being made — YouTube Search for Notification Center is evidence that they still are — but since there are less, I tend to put the more recent releases under the microscope a bit more.

With that in mind, how does YouTube Search for Notification Center stack up? Read More

ProTube: An Alternative YouTube App for Jailbreakers

by Jeff Benjamin on Jan 5, 2012

You know it. I know it. The stock YouTube app that comes with your iOS device is simply an abomination. Yes, it’s that terrible.

So anything that can improve over the stock app is generally received with a warm response. For that matter, even YouTube’s web app is leaps and bounds over the stock YouTube app.

ProTube is the latest YouTube alternative to make its way to Cydia, and it attempts to pick up where the YouTube web app left off. Does it succeed? Check inside for my full breakdown… Read More

TubeCenter: Add YouTube to Notification Center

by Jeff Benjamin on Dec 13, 2011

TubeCenter — as its name might allude to — is a tweak that allows you to place a YouTube widget in iOS 5′s Notification Center.

MyMobileTube Pro is Anything But Professional

by Jeff Benjamin on Nov 21, 2011

This ranks up there with one of the worst Cydia purchases I’ve ever made. MyMobileTube Pro sounds like it’s a professional app, but that couldn’t be anything further from the truth.

Obviously, it’s not a huge deal for me, because I do these walkthroughs for the benefit of our viewers and readers, but for some reason this one stung a bit more than others have in the past.

Maybe it’s the fact that this “app” is even more offensive than Google’s Gmail app, in that it’s nothing more than a wrapper around a webpage? Read More

WeeSearch: Search Google, YouTube, And Wikipedia From Notification Center

by Jeff Benjamin on Oct 24, 2011

WeeSearch is a recently released Notification Center jailbreak widget for iOS 5, which allows for YouTube, Google, and Wikipedia searches right from the convenience of Notification Center.

It’s free, and it works to a certain extent, but it’s obvious that the widget was rushed in its development. It’s missing a few fundamental features, and not everything works as expected.

Check inside for a full rundown on what’s good and bad about WeeSearch… Read More

Which is faster? Well, obviously the iPhone 4S is faster, but you might be surprised at just how much faster.

In certain areas, namely gaming, the iPhone 4S blows the iPhone 4 out of the water. In other areas, the differences are surprisingly less discernable.

We’ve pitted the former heavyweight champ against the newcomer, and we’ve documented the results on video. Who wins? Watch and see… Read More
