Apple’s iPhone sales in the United States have traditionally been strong at Apple Stores, likely due to the superior buying experience.

A new research has revealed a little known fact, that customers pick up a Sprint version of the device at carrier-agnostic retailers more often than at Apple’s retail outlets.

It’s got lots to do with high retention rates for rivals AT&T and Verizon resulting in little switching and Sprint just not having enough existing customers to walk through the door… Read More

By Christian Zibreg on May 9, 2012

As Sprint, the nation’s third-largest carrier, begins its long-overdue nationwide 4G LTE rollout, those keeping their fingers crossed for some crazy fast download speeds on a next-generation 4G LTE iPhone will be in for an unpleasant surprise.

Is Verizon intentionally talking customers out of iPhones?

By Cody Lee on May 5, 2012

Of the 6.3 million smartphones Verizon sold last quarter, 3.2 million of them were iPhones. This means it sold more Apple-branded handsets than it did all other smartphones combined. So the carrier must really be pushing these things, right?

Well as it turns out, that doesn’t seem to be the case. CNET’s Chris Matyszczyk recently went to his local Verizon store to investigate a rumor that Big Red reps were actually purposely diverting iPhone sales. And judging by the account, they are… Read More

On carriers putting iPhone in its place, Apple doomsayers and crazypants analysts

By Christian Zibreg on Apr 19, 2012

Today’s first-quarter earnings from Verizon include 3.2 million iPhone activations. That’s down 1.1 million units, or 24 percent, from the 4.3 million iPhones they activated in the holiday quarter, when Apple sold a whopping 37 million iPhones.

Still, iPhones continue to make up over half of Verizon’s smartphone sales, easily beating the 2.1 million 4G LTE smartphones the carrier shipped.

Now, finance boss Fran Shammo hinted during a conference call with investors that Verizon could reconsider the iPhone subsidy and said they are “fully supportive” of Microsoft because the industry needs a third mobile platform.

It was enough for naysayers to come out of the woodwork and spell doom for the iPhone, the Apple stock and the company itself. You too must have seen sensationalist headlines lately that disseminate an anti-Apple sentiment.

So… Should Apple really be worried? And what the heck is up with Apple doomsayers and their crazypants analyst peers?

Here are my two cents… Read More

What Batterygate? The new iPad lasts 25+ hours when hotspotting

By Christian Zibreg on Mar 26, 2012

When used as a personal hotspot only over Verizon’s 4G cellular connection, the new iPad gets more than 25 hours of run time, AnandTech found out in their battery life testing published this morning. This is better than your average MiFi device by at least a factor of five. Matter of fact, it gets exactly an hour less in hotspotting tests compared to WiFi benchmarks, which falls in line with Apple’s official specs.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime beats Apple’s third-generation tablet when hotspotting in Normal, Balanced and Power Saving profiles. With that in mind, the ability to use your iPad as a personal Verizon hotspot for more than 25 hours is certainly welcome news in a string of negative reports alleging issues with the tablet’s much-improved 42.5Wh battery.
