GeoHot arrested for Marijuana possession while driving to SXSW

While on his way to SXSW, famous iPhone hacker Geohot was arrested for Marijuana possession in Sierra Blanca, a small town with a history of arresting famous people for pot possession, including country singer Willie Nelson, and rapper Snoop Dogg.

While at the checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, the Department of Homeland Security had drug dogs that barked at GeoHot’s car, meaning there was something fishy in the car. GeoHot apparently had a quarter of chronic stashed in the glove box, as well as eatables containing less than 1/8 oz of marijuana…

GeoHot Quit His Job at Facebook, Now a Full-Time Hacker

Those of you who have been jailbreaking for a while will undoubtedly know George “GeoHot” Hotz, the guy who brought to us the very first iPhone unlock, back in 2008. Since then, GeoHot developed several jailbreaks, including purplera1n, blackra1n, and limera1n.

Then in 2011, GeoHot was sued by Sony for jailbreaking the PlayStation 3. The matter was quickly settled out of court, and GeoHot started working for Facebook shortly after.

In case you’ve been too busy playing on your PS3, renowned iPhone hacker George “Geohot” Hotz is in the middle of a heated lawsuit with Sony. Geohot “jailbroke” the Sony PS3 and circumvented Sony’s DRM. The ramification of his exploit is that Sony is now suing Geohot for “encouraging piracy” on their platform.

Geohot Has a Successful First Round of Donations for His Fight Against Sony

Geohot has updated his blog, “Geohot Got Sued” with the results from his first round of donations for his legal fight against Sony.

In case you missed it, Geohot is entering a legal battle with Sony because he cracked the DRM on the PS3. Sony claims that Geohot broke the law by jailbreaking the PS3, and they are seeking financial retribution for Geohot’s exploit.

A few days ago, we posted that Geohot put a plea out to his followers asking for donations via PayPal to fund his legal fees for the upcoming trial with Sony. He has closed the first round of donations from over the weekend, and he made bank.

George Hotz, or “Geohot,” is a pioneer in the jailbreak community. He has been the mastermind behind many jailbreak projects, including LimeRa1n and BlackSn0w.

Geohot recently hacked Sony’s Playstation 3 and essentially created the ability to “jailbreak” Sony’s popular console.
