Beautiful Unfold lock screen tweak now available and it’s free

by Christian Zibreg on May 23, 2012

Jeff told you about this awesome lock screen tweak on Sunday and I’m happy to report that the Unfold jailbreak tweak is now available for download. It was born out of Anton Kudin’s “fold to unlock” concept for the iPhone which immediately captured attention of the jailbreak community.

Three days later, that concept has been brought to reality thanks to German jailbreak developer Jonas Gessner. What this tweak does is pretty simple yet very effective… Read More

Upcoming jailbreak tweak allows you to fold your Lock screen to unlock your iPhone

by Jeff Benjamin on May 20, 2012

A few days ago, Russian freelance designer, Anton Kudin, created a new “fold to unlock” concept for the iPhone. Needless to say, his concept turned out to be a pretty big hit.

Unsurprisingly, given the history of the jailbreak community’s fast turnaround time, Kudin’s concept has been turned into a reality.

This afternoon I had the privilege to sit down and test out an unreleased version of Unfold, a new jailbreak tweak from German jailbreak developer Jonas Gessner. Unfold, as you might have guessed, is a usable implementation of the fold to unlock concept.

These two tweaks make it easier to delete contacts and history items

by Jeff Benjamin on May 17, 2012

For some strange reason Apple has made deleting contacts an overly difficult task; they’ve likewise made deleting individual Safari history items impossible.

Perhaps these hurdles and restrictions exists by design, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re both incredibly annoying.

If you happen to be jailbroken, two tweaks — OneByOne Safari and OneByOne Contacts — seek to address this lingering issue within iOS. Full video walkthrough inside… Read More

Dashtweet now available on Cydia

by Jeff Benjamin on May 10, 2012

Although it was the first widget exclusively developed for Dashboard X that I was able to test, Dashtweet is actually the second Dashboard X widget to appear on Cydia after Clock Widget.

Dashboard X is a new widget platform that allows you to add widgets directly to your iOS device’s Home screen. This allows you to customize your iPhone similar to the way that Android devices allow to toy with various widgets.

Dashtweet, as its name suggests, is a Twitter widget that allows you to tweet directly from your Home screen. You can now get it for free from Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Be sure to check out our full walkthrough of Dashtweet as well.

VolumeColor: change the color of the iPhone’s volume HUD

by Jeff Benjamin on May 10, 2012

You can safely file this one under the “not necessarily useful, but nonetheless interesting” tweak of the day. VolumeColor is a recent Cydia release that allows you to alter the color of your volume HUD.

It’s also not that original, as I’m pretty sure I’ve seen such functionality in another tweak before, though its name currently escapes me.

Anyhow, feel free to take a look at our video walkthrough of VolumeColor inside… Read More

How to add a character counter to the Notes app

by Jeff Benjamin on May 7, 2012

Who types text that is lengthy enough to warrant a character counter in the Notes app? That’s the first thing I thought when trying Characount for Notes, and needless to say I’m still pondering the question.

That’s literally all this tweak does. It places a character counter, not a word counter mind you, but a character counter at the top of each note you compose.

SpotDict: Search iOS’ built in dictionary from Spotlight

by Jeff Benjamin on May 5, 2012

Spotlight search is very useful when you actually need to use it, but how many times do you find yourself needing to do so?

If you’re anything like me, you can probably count on one hand how many times you’ve used Spotlight over the past few months.

Perhaps this recently released jailbreak tweak will coerce you into using Spotlight a bit more often? It’s called SpotDict, and it allows you to look up words in iOS’ built in dictionary directly from the Spotlight search page… Read More

iPad text editing concept comes to life thanks to this jailbreak tweak

by Jeff Benjamin on May 4, 2012

When Cody posted about Daniel Hooper’s iPad keyboard demo, we had no idea that it would be as popular as it has turned out to be. Thousands of retweets later, the public has spoken out against how terrible the iPad’s editing situation is. I think John Gruber summed it up best when he noted that the iPad was a great for typing, but poor for editing.

The iPad keyboard demo video was created with the hopes that Apple would respond and implement something similar in the upcoming version of iOS. There’s even instructions included on the video for submitting a bug report to Apple.

Well, Apple may not listen, but someone else did. Indeed, the jailbreak community has responded in a big way. Introducing SwipeSelection — a usable realization of the original iPad concept video… Read More

‘DisabledNC Switch’ disables Notification Center in full screen apps

by Jeff Benjamin on May 1, 2012

Don’t you just hate it when you’re in the middle of playing a game and you accidentally invoke Notification Center?

I’ve found that in particular, games that require a lot of random swipes suffer the most from this issue.

Thankfully, a new jailbreak tweak has been created to put an end to this nonsense, and it’s appropriately titled DisableNC SwitchRead More
