iPad 2 Jailbreak is “Almost Ready?”

Last week we broke the news about a teaser Comex had released on the JailbreakMe website, which consisted in a cryptic image suggesting that he might have found a new exploit. At the time, we speculated that it could be related to an iPad 2 jailbreak.

It looks like whatever Comex is working on - and we do believe it's an iPad 2 jailbreak - is "almost ready"...

10 Passcodes You Should NOT Use on Your iPhone

Daniel Amitay, the developer of the Big Brother Camera Security app, ran an interesting survey of his application's users. He added some code to anonymously record passcodes of iPhone owners who use his application.

With this little test, Amitay was able to record 204,508 passcodes from as many devices, giving him the opportunity to find out what the most used passcodes are. If you are using any of these passcodes, you might want to change this right away in order to increase the safety of the information on your device...

iOS 5 Provides Free Tethering to Verizon iPhone Users

Here is a new iOS 5 feature that hasn't been documented yet, most likely because it's probably a bug that will be taken care of in the next beta release. If you own a Verizon iPhone (aka CDMA version of the iPhone) and you go to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering, and turn the toggle ON, you will be able to tether your device for free, turning it into a Wi-Fi hotspot at no charge.

I don't have a Verizon iPhone so I couldn't verify this myself but I asked several people on Twitter and they were all able to turn tethering ON, without having to pay anything to Verizon...

14 Reasons the Editor in Chief of PC Mag Should Never Write About Apple

We told you there is a rumor going around that Apple might start selling factory unlocked iPhones in the US, starting this Wednesday. The rumor was started by @ChronicWire, a "side account" of fame jailbreak developer Chronic.

Today, PC Mag Editor in Chief Lance Ulanoff wrote a piece titled "Unlock iPhones: Why Apple Won't Do It" where he explains his point of view on the rumor. And boy his point of view is screwed. Let's dissect it and analyze...

Poll: Would You Buy a Factory Unlocked iPhone for $649?

We reported a couple days ago that Apple might start selling factory unlocked iPhones in the US, just like it has been in many countries for over a year. Obviously, there would be an additional cost to that.

Looking at what the iPhone 4 sells for in Canada, both locked and factory unlocked, I assume that if the iPhone 4 is available, unlocked, in the US tomorrow, it will probably sell for $649 for the 16GB version or $749 for the 32GB...

Dev Team Releases RedSn0w iOS 5 Jailbreak for Windows

A couple days ago, the Dev Team released the first jailbreak for iOS 5 beta 1, via RedSn0w 0.9.8b1, a tool that was Mac only until today. Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd tweeted moments ago that RedSn0w 0.9.8b1 is now also compatible with Windows.

Like we mentioned when we first reported about this latest version of RedSn0w, jailbreaking iOS 5 is recommended for developers only as many jailbreak apps are "broken" and do not work properly for the time being...

iOS 5 Gets Its First Jailbreak Tweak, and You’re Going to Like It

It's been about 24 hours since the release of RedSn0w 0.9.8b1, a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5 beta 1, and we've already had confirmation that it's possible to add widgets to the Notification Center of Apple's latest mobile OS. Not only we have the confirmation, but we now have the proof as the jailbreak community has already come up with a tweak for it.

The tweak is called UISettings, and could be described as a SBSettings widget for the Notification Center.

Once installed, UISettings will appear in your Notification Center along with the Stocks and Weather widgets, or "tickers", as Apple likes to call them. Just like SBSettings, it gives you quick access to turn On and Off some important features of your device, such as wifi, Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, etc...

Apple Gets Sued Over iCloud Trademark

Just about a week after Apple unveiled iCloud, it's already being sued by a company called iCloud Communications over the iCloud trademark. iCloud Communications claims that the use of iCloud in Apple's marketing could be damaging to their business.

And they're serious about it too, requiring Apple to “deliver for destruction all [iCloud] labels, signs, prints, insignia, letterhead, brochures, business cards, invoices and any other written or recorded material.”

The Naughty Test – Puzzles for Your Naughty Mind [Sponsored]

The Naughty Test is a new and somewhat controversial app created by Taptoid. It was initially rejected by Apple for having too much inappropriate content and crude humor. However, after some back and forth with Apple, the guys at Taptoid were able to get the app approved.

The app doesn't really have any inappropriate content at all. It only seems dirty and inappropriate, and that's the whole point. The Naughty Test tests to see if you have a dirty mind or if your mind is always in the gutter. It's got a lot of content and a lot of tests, including Mind Teasers, Eye Candy, Naughty Blanks, Mystery Challenges, and The Final Exam...

TinyUmbrella Updated for iOS 5 Beta 1

A quick note for jailbreakers out there, TinyUmbrella has been updated to bring support for the iOS 5 beta 1. TinyUmbrella's developer, Notcom, also added a new, nifty alert to remind users to "Request SHSH from Cydia" and "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit" as soon as possible.

Make sure you don't use TinyUmbrella to update to iOS 5 while preserving your baseband as the "fixrecovery" feature hasn't been updated yet...

Apple Quickly Updates iTunes to Version 10.3.1

The latest iTunes (version 10.3) just shipped a couple days ago but it appears some users were encountering the "unknown error (-50)" when trying to sync their device. Even though there seemed to be some workarounds around that, it was clear that iTunes itself was the cause of the problem.

Today, Apple shipped iTunes 10.3.1 which apparently fixes this issue. If you were having syncing issues with iTunes 10.3, make sure to hit the "Check for Updates" option in iTunes to download the latest version...
