A big problem potential jailbreakers face is that of updating too far to be supported by eventual tools. Either through impatience, or by accident, I hear often that a user's device is now on too high a firmware to enjoy the latest release.

A hands-on tutorial for Houdini, the iOS 10.x “semi-jailbreak” tweaking tool
If you've heard of the new tool Houdini but haven't got around to trying it out yet, then let us show you how in this quick guide. If you haven't heard of it, check out my post on the topic for a bit of background information.
How to block automatic updates and prompts on non-jailbroken Apple TV 4 and 4K
With the release of Ian Beer's new exploit, some hope for a future Apple TV 4/4K jailbreak has appeared. The exploit will theoretically work on firmwares up to and including tvOS 11.1, but not 11.2 and higher. For this reason, I advised in my jailbreak guide that Apple TV 4/4K users who want to have a chance of jailbreaking manually restore now to tvOS 11.1, before it goes unsigned. You can use our guide on the topic to do so.
JailbreakMe-style browser jailbreak for iOS 9 in the works
After an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak, an iOS 9.3.5 jailbreak, and an untether for the iOS 9.1-9.3.4 Home Depot jailbreak, tihmstar has now turned his attention to a mobile browser-based jailbreak for 32-bit devices.
Houdini “semi-jailbreak” for iOS 10.x released
You may remember us reporting on the most recent jailbreak to be released, Saïgon. Well, its developer Abraham Masri is back, with something inventive we haven't seen before. Perhaps best described as a "semi-jailbreak", his tool Houdini achieves some of the effects of a jailbreak, whilst avoiding the hardest challenges and pitfalls which constructing the full package would bring.
Saïgon jailbreak released for some iOS 10.2.1 64-bit devices, iOS 10.3.1 a possibility
There's a new release in the jailbreak line-up: an iOS 10.2.1 tool called Saïgon. Although it still doesn't cater for the latest firmware versions, it comes closer than we've seen in a while and what's more, is for 64-bit devices. We've waited a few days to see any early reports of success, before collecting up the currently available info on this most recent development in the jailbreaking world.
How to get the iOS 11.1 emoji on your jailbroken device
It beggars belief the number of times I've searched through the iOS keyboard looking for a sandwich emoji to send to my nearest and dearest; it's a big part of my life. And finally, I am to be catered for, quite literally. iOS 11.1 beta 2 serves up some tasty emoji additions.
If you're jailbroken on iOS 9 or 10, you will want to be able to send and view these newbies without losing your jailbreak, and you can. We'll walk you through the most stable method for bringing iOS 11.1 emoji to lower jailbroken firmwares.
Untethered 32-bit jailbreak for iOS 8.4.1 released
It seems the joint creator of the iOS 9.3.5 Phœnix jailbreak has been busy filling up the remaining gaps in the jailbroken firmware listings. Following up on the Phœnix tool and an untether for the iOS 9.1-9.3.4 Home Depot jailbreak, tihmstar released an untethered 32-bit jailbreak for iOS 8.4.1 about a week ago. We refrained from recommending the initial release as it had a few issues, but it now seems ready for general consumption.
How to find offsets for tihmstar’s iOS 9 untether (and how to untether your Home Depot jailbreak)
Want to turn your semi-tethered Home Depot jailbreak on iOS 9.1-9.3.4 into fully untethered? I'll show you how to find the offsets to do so, and how to be part of finishing up the jailbreak simultaneously.
How to get the iOS 10.3 emoji on your jailbroken device
If you've had trouble enabling the latest emoji using Bytafont, Anemone, or EmojiFontManager in the past, this guide is just what you need! These theming solutions are prone to quirks, and may not work at all (ahem, Bytafont) on higher firmwares.
Researcher publishes kernel exploit for 64-bit devices on iOS 10.3.1 and below
You may recall hearing of the slew of kernel bugs that were patched in iOS 10.3.2, all of which were reported by Adam Donenfeld, an iOS and Android security researcher. At the time, he stated that an exploit using the bugs was already written and would be released at the HITBGSEC conference in the summer.
Well, summer is here, and with it both the conference and the promised exploit.
Everything you need to know about tihmstar’s iOS 9.1-9.3.4 jailbreak untether
First things first: do not rush off and install this untether on your devices. It could easily boot loop them. This isn't a general warning to be ignored; the tool does not support most devices yet, and I will not be held responsible for any damage done by it.
Having said that, let's have a gander at this new release, the first jailbreak untether that we've seen in quite some time.
