We recently told you about the success of the App Store in reaching nearly 25 billion Downloads. That's a truly amazing statistic. In that 25 billion there will no doubt be some good apps, some poor apps and some down right ugly apps. The good folks over at Redmond Pie have come across a fine little app called 'Mactracker' which definitely fits in the good section.

Mactracker is one for the nostalgic Apple fans out there, offering in depth details on every Apple computer ever made with full technical specifications including things like processor speed, memory details, graphics card, optical drives, supported OS versions, expansion options and more. The App covers all bases right back from 1984 to present day...

Apple seeking to sue the already bankrupt Kodak

Back in January we ran a story regarding the on-going legal issues between Apple and the 131 year old photography company Kodak. Back then, Kodak intended to file a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple, concerning 4 Kodak owned patents.

Just a little over a month on and the tables have well and truly been turned. According to the Rochester Business Journal, Apple is now seeking permission to file new patent-infringement claims against Eastman Kodak Co. Apple's counter-claim is that Kodak actually stole the idea for these patents in the first place...

The Kindle Fire is gaining market share but the iPad remains the king

Some interesting news has been released today regarding the recent success of the Kindle Fire, Amazon's flagship tablet device. According to iSuppli, Amazon managed to grab a 14% share of the tablet market in the last financial quarter, while Apple's market share dropped from 64% in Q3 to 57% in Q4.

Apple released the iPad 2 nearly a year ago so it makes perfect sense that demand will drop as the year goes on, especially when new products like the Fire get released later in the year. I expect market share to significantly increase further in Apple's favor when iPad 3 drops...

The team behind popular Outlook plugin, Smartr Inbox, have released what is essentially an address book on steroids for your iOS device. This nifty free application promises to create rich profiles for all your contacts, including communication history and updates from Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

First Time Smartphone Buyers Prefer Android Over iPhone

According to research firm NPD Group, Apple has passed up Samsung and LG to become the #1 selling US handset brand in the fourth quarter of 2011. Between the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, the iPhone accounted for 43% of the US smartphone market, even though Android's market share increased to 48%.

Combined, iOS and Android devices accounted for over 90% of US sales, leaving Blackberry, Windows Phone and other mobile OSs under 10%.

The NPD went on to say that 57% of first time US smartphone buyers go with an Android device, while only 34% of first time buyers purchased iPhones...

HTC Profits Drop 26%, Cites Apple’s Heavy Competition

Today HTC has reported a 26% drop in its fourth quarter profits. They went onto express the fear of that number growing to 36% by the end of 2012's first quarter.

The company had visions of a brighter future as they will announce new products at Barcelona's upcoming Mobile World Congress later this month, however this appears to not be the case.

CFO Winston Yung told analysts "Our weakness in first-quarter guidance [...] comes from facing competition in the U.S. from iPhone and Samsung." Samsung is currently the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world, but Apple, the 3rd largest, is gaining ground quickly...

350,000 Textbooks for iPad Downloaded in Three Days

Last Thursday, Apple took the stage at Guggenheim Museum in New York City to unveil its new educational content and publishing tools based on the iBooks platform. The event was centered around the releases of iBooks 2, iTunes U for iOS, and iBooks Author for Mac. And, as reported by AllThingsD, the response to the company's educational efforts has been nothing short of phenomenal.

According to Global Equities Research, upwards of 350,000 interactive textbooks for iPad were downloaded from the iBookstore during the first three days of availability. iBooks Author, Apple's free textbook creation tool for Mac, also had just shy of 100,000 downloads during its opening weekend. Best of all, it's a win-win situation for both students and publishers...

This is Why iPhones Are Made in China

In a recent report from the New York Times, the newspaper gives us great detail about why Apple outsources iPhone manufacturing to China, and how Steve Jobs changed the iPhone 2G weeks before the release.

The report features many short stories from Apple employees who give first-hand accounts of why Apple decided to move their manufacturing overseas. The article also gives a very interesting look of President Obama's Silicon Valley Dinner back in February of last year . At the dinner, many Silicon Valley executives attended, including Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg.

Many executives were able to ask President Obama questions. While Steve Jobs was talking, President Obama interrupted him and asked him "what would it take to make iPhones in the United States?" Steve Jobs simply replied with "Those jobs aren’t coming back".

Photo Booth Ported to the iPhone 4S

When Apple released the iPad 2 last year, the company boasted its new dual-core processor and front and rear-facing cameras. These improvements to the iPad 2 meant that App Store developers could release more elaborate and intensive applications for the tablet. Apple also took advantage of the opportunity themselves by launching a native Photo Booth application for the iPad 2.

Despite having nearly the same specifications as the iPad 2, including a dual-core processor and higher megapixel cameras, Apple chose not to include an iPhone version of Photo Booth on the iPhone 4S. But, that's all about to change...
