Noted, Reji, Unsplash and other apps to check out this weekend

This week’s edition of our Apps of the Week roundup features a powerful audio recording and note-taking app, a flash card-maker for learning languages, and an official client for the popular Unsplash service. And as usual, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.

Noted

Noted is a beautiful audio recording and note-taking app for lectures, meetings, interviews, conferences and more, making it super-easy for you to record every moment with confidence. With a rich text editor for formatting and 3D Touch for instant audio preview, it is the ultimate audio note-taking companion. Every word you type is instantly timestamped, so your notes synchronize effortlessly with your recording. Unfortunately some features are hidden behind a premium subscription service, but if you’re in the market for a powerful note-taking app/service, Noted is worth checking out.

Reji

Learn words and how to pronounce them in 46 languages with your own flashcards, with Reji. The app allows you to build flashcards with words you want to learn very easily. Just type in the words, and it will embed the translation, definition or image on the back side of the flashcard to help you log it to memory. Reji also has a bunch of pre-made flashcards with basic words in all supported languages that you can download. I know there are a ton of these types of apps out there, and this one seems more geared towards advanced users, but the UI alone makes this worth checking out.

Unsplash

The popular stock photo website Unsplash now has an iPhone app. Search over 450,000 beautiful high-res photos that you can save and use for anything—backgrounds, websites, schools reports, etc. Every photo is licensed under the Unsplash License, which allows for both personal and commercial use, so there’s no red tape to run through. And as a bonus, it supports drag and drop.

Color Spin

Color Spin is a fun little game designed to test your reflexes and concentration. It’s super easy: start the game and when the spinning pointer color matches the sector color, tap! The more you progress the more sequential matches you need to make to advance. There are over 50+ levels to spin through. I’ve seen some similar games, but a well-designed, addictive, quick-twitch game that’s free (with some IAPs)? It’s hard not to recommend.

OIL

OIL is a game about digging for oil in early 1900’s America. It’s a two player game that you play against a computer or with your friend on the same device. It’s essentially a digital board game that plays a little bit like battleships with of course an oil-mining twist. Use your strategic mastery to beat your opponent to get the most oil, and prove once and for all who is the best oilman around! 18 levels to unlock. 3 tiers of difficulty. Beautiful soundtrack. Sharp graphics. So what are you waiting for? Get mining.
