UK carrier O2 allegedly tells staff that iPhone 8 will release on September 22

Following unconfirmed reports that Apple is aiming to announce iPhone 8 on Tuesday, September 22, smartphone leaker Benjamin Geskin claimed yesterday that UK carrier O2 has told its staff that the new phones will be released in stores on Friday, September 22.

“O2 have confirmed to staff members that iPhone 8 release date is  September 22 in stores,” he tweeted. Take the report with a grain of salt because Geskin tweets many things without mentioning a source.

The Wall Street Journal, which originally reported on the rumored September 12 event date, said that Apple Park’s construction could affect the timing or location of the event as the company “is aiming” to use the Steve Jobs Theater, pictured below, for the big reveal.

French blog Mac4Ever was first to report a few weeks ago that mobile phone operators like SFR, Orange and others were informed in advance about the September 12 event so they could prepare inventory and marketing plans.
