iPhone SE is fifteen months old now, but don’t hold your breath for any kind of hardware refresh to the smallest and most affordable Apple handset. That’s according to Chinese analyst Pan Jiutang, who predicted Apple won’t be refreshing iPhone SE because he doesn’t think there’s enough demand for the device since most consumers are looking for bigger phones.

The report should be taken with a grain of salt because Apple is now building “Assembled in India” iPhone SE models that it plans to eventually export. On top of that, the Cupertino tech giant is planning to expand local iPhone manufacturing in India.

In the US alone, more than five percent of the overall mobile phone sales apparently belong to iPhone SE. The 32-gigabyte edition of the device retails for $399 in the United States.

Powered by Apple’s A9 chip, iPhone SE is compatible with iOS 11.

In my opinion, Apple would be wise to keep iPhone SE in its offering for another year or so in order to cater to the needs of people that prefer smaller, inexpensive handsets.

I think they should just discontinue it now no1 wants a 4 inch phone

    • AMB_07

The sales numbers and its higher-than-expected initial demand suggest otherwise.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

It’s trash tho 4 inch is way too small bare minimum for me is plus sized iPhone no dual camera tiny battery didn’t even have the decency to give it ois shit cameras worse aperture rear camera than 7 and 7 plus only shit 1.2 mp front camera no 3D Touch not even hd screen terrible contrast ratio it bends only got a9 and 2GB RAM and it’s so outdated that it has a headphone jack

      • Blacklight: Retribution

People like to have a phone they can hold and use with just 1 hand. I own both the iPhone SE and iPhone 7 Plus and use them about the same. When I’m out I use my iPhone SE, when I’m home I use my iPhone 7 Plus.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

SE Is literally like a toy 7 plus is the only device I use I used the small iPhone(5) until 2015 but then I got 6s plus and will never go back

      • Jose Rivera

Dude that all YOUR opinion. I personally love the SE for how fast and fluid it is with the hardware that was given to it. YOU may not have any need for a phone that small but it doesn’t mean that OTHERS won’t want a phone like that. I have literally met 7 people who all want to get an SE as their next phone because they loved the 5/5S that they’re rocking. Just because those tastes all might apply to YOU, it doesn’t mean that THE REST OF THE WORLD doesn’t have the complete opposite reaction you do towards that phone bro. The headphone jack is nowhere near obsolete just yet. The only reason it was truly removed in the 7 was to make space for other components and make the entire phone water resistant. Before you jump on a train bashing a phone left and right, understand that not everything out there is made just for you. There are others out there who have a different taste and love the size of that phone. I know people who complain that the Plus sized phones are too big for them. Learn to listen to OTHER PEROPLES opinions before YOU make it all about YOU.

      • AMB_07

You’re confusing your own opinion with other’s preferences. There is clearly a market for the SE whether you like the phone or not. I love my SE and I prefer it over the 7 because of its size and price. Critics and most people still agree that the iPhone 5/5s/SE design is still widely regarded as the best iphone design yet and many people don’t care for huge phones. I absolutely dislike the Plus line but that doesn’t mean others don’t want it. Also the removal of the headphone jack has been critically panned and I don’t care for the 7’s lack of more options.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

        Headphone jack is obsolete

      • AMB_07

        That’s like your opinion man.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

5/5s/se is TERRIBLE design btw too blocky

      • AMB_07

Again it’s your opinion, not shared by many.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

Nah nigga I don’t know anyone who thinks the SE is a good design everyone likes curves in 2017

      • AMB_07

I like it, i’m “anyone” and so do the millions of others who bought the same phone.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

Like I said most of the millions of others only bought it bc of the inexpensive price tag

      • AMB_07

The cheaper price tag is certainly a reason, but iphones are not cheap and nobody buys iphones for their “inexpensive” prices. biggest reasons are always: Looks, aesthetics, software and performance.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

But SE doesn’t have the best of any of that, 7 plus does all currently

      • AMB_07

Of course it doesn’t because it’s not the flagship model, the 7 is. But to deny what the SE does have is downright foolish even when it doesn’t please you. The SE is the best phone of its size ever made, hands down. I used to have a big phone but I prefered going back to much smaller and the SE was perfect for me, plus I do prefer its design over the 7’s and I didn’t want to settle for a lack of headphone jack.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

U didn’t even mention price if price didn’t mean anything everyone would just buy 7 plus

      • AMB_07

I see you’re just in here to spam the comment section, it’s sad how you’re willing to disrespect people for their phone taste. Have fun, goodbye.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

I’m not spamming accept the fact that small phones r becoming obsolete in 3-4 years they won’t exist and SE will probably be the last 4 inch device Apple make

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

What do u mean deny what the SE does have? It has nothing that the flagship doesn’t and lacks stuff that it does

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

Headphone jack is over 100 year old u shouldn’t still use it I use wireless headphones

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

        No1 wants a slab design

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

U gotta be a midget to prefer SE

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

I love my 7 plus when I try to use other people’s smaller devices it just feels cramped

      • burge

You said it yourself “for me”. While you think is not suitable for you that doesn’t mean everybody else.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

Also I doubt it’s that people actually WANT a 4 inch phone it’s more that it’s inexpensive

      • Urname

Yeah, but what if that’s the best way for Apple to keep an inexpensive iPhone in the line up? They clearly want to sell to that demographic, and the larger phones are more expensive for them to manufacture. So it might make sense for them to keep making the SE (maybe even periodically upgrading it’s internals) to hit that segment of the market.

Another incentive for Apple is that the SE might be a great gateway device into the entire Apple ecosystem. The iPhone 4 was like that for myself, and now I basically have everything Apple, it’s embarrassing.

      • Icebox766

I’ve got two family members who are very happy with the smaller form factor. One is s very petite 16 year old who as long as she wants a phone that is comfy in one hand, will need that size. I just moved her from a 5 to the SE when she broke the screen on the 5. And then my 18 year old not at all petite son likes that size too, because of the way the smaller phones fit in a pocket vs bigger phones. Though he seems to be moving towards the 6S for his next phone.

Moral: different people value different things and so yes, there are people who want the smaller phone.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

The pocket argument makes no sense I can fit my 7 plus in my pocket just fine

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

And that’s with an otter box defender case could definitely fit it easier without

      • Icebox766

I have a 6s+ with an otter box commuter case and while it fits in a pants pocket, even after having this for more than a year, it’s damn annoying and it comes out asap. Much different than when I had the iPhone 5 before that. Smaller phones fit better in a pocket.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

Really depends what pants u where it fits in my track pants fine

      • Icebox766

Well I wear jeans and khakis most of the time. So guess what Siri, your experience differs from mine. I’d think it be even more annoying in looser pants, but you obviously don’t think that. I want the bigger screen, so I deal with the annoyance. But if someone values the pluses and minuses differently, that’s ok too. That’s the key thing you miss. Each phone has pluses and minuses, and there is no right answer for which phone is “best”. There is only the best phone for you, given your values.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

Which only happens when the battery dies anyway as I’m like addicted and always on it

    • Strife

I would gladly pay for a new generation 3.5 inch phone akin to the iPhone 4/4S.

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

Y would u? Anything smaller than 7 plus is too small

      • burge

That’s your opinion not other people’s opinion. I know a few people with the SE and they have these because of the jobs they have they need something that’s not going cost a small fortune if they need to replace it.

      • Urname

Someone is trying to compensate for something…

      • Siri Tim Cook Holness

        Nope

    • Blacklight: Retribution

A lot of people own the iPhone SE.

      • TechnoBuff

Because they own it does not mean Apple has to keep on making it. At the end of the day.. the cost of maintaining that line and the demand will determine it.

  • Blacklight: Retribution

    well damn

  • TechnoBuff

The reality of the matter is that 4 inch phones are becoming obsolete. Within 3-4 years, they will cease to exist. So those that loves smaller phones had better start adjusting to that fact.
